Report finds seventy homes accepted hospital patients untested for Covid-19.
A fifth of care homes surveyed received a Covid-19 positive patient from hospital.
Managers in some homes placed unlawful do not resuscitate orders on residents.
Nursing homes were pressured into accepting patients with coronavirus while simultaneously being refused treatment for residents by hospitals and GPs, according to research.
A report by the Queen's Nursing Institute (QNI) found homes were told hospitals had a blanket 'no admissions' policy at the height of the pandemic.
The QNI, a charity which focuses on the improvement of nursing care of people in their own home, found care home residents were regularly refused treatment in April and May.
Good morning to you 2greys and a really sad and somewhat expected, report youve given us the link to. Many thanks. My dad is in a Care Home which had no COVID-19 clients or staff as they were able to purchase enough PPE early on and of course visits from 3rd week in March weren't allowed. However almist 13 days ago , onne p/t nursing assistant tested positive and still no proper visits allowed. I think if the whole truth came out relating to all Care Homes from the start of COVID19 until end of year (God willing it will have disappeared by then), then all the flaws can be seen and something can be learnt from it all. 🐿
Yes, it makes you wonder why it has taken all this time to come to their conclusions. It seems that we have our "fingers on the pulse" better than they do.
I agree entirely, this was obvious at the time and also that many smaller nursing homes would be unable to cope with the coovid 19 As it was also obvious that those people shielded were being
got out of the way for the expected mainstream
patients and hospitals. The so called planners have a lot to answer for.
I couldn't believe the stupidity of the government at the time, forcing nursing homes to accept untested patients from hospital. Had anyone with any form of medical experience been consulted, they would have told them what a dangerous idea it was.
