Carbocistine

Hi, I've been taking Carbosistine to break up my Sputem for a few years now and lately find that I'm getting more thick sputem so I suspect it's stopped working for me. Is there another product that may be better for me ?

I find that one brand works better than the other.

Unfortunately,the chemist hasnt. been able to get hold of the preferred brand.

Luckily,as I use a nebuliser my sputum is not too bad.

I use NAC supplement 600mg twice daily. I find it works better for me and is more natural. Perhaps you could look it up if your interested. Cx

Hi Chriskho, I have been reading up on NAC and found it has good reviews but I can't see much difference from Carbocysteine ( spelled it right )😅 I will look into it though. Thanks.x

For what it's worth, I had a hospital consultation some 2 years ago. The consultant said that carbocisteine shouldn't be prescribed at all except for non cystic fibrosis. Having taken it for 4 years until then, I can't say I noticed any difference at all when I stopped. However, I have bronchiectasis which isn't as severe as some people have. Littlepom and other v experienced members may be better to advise on this.

What dose do u take? Perhaps talk to dr to see what he suggests re change in dose.mine is variable according to how sputum is x

I use mainly carbocisteine with the odd NAC capsule instead at times. Consultant told me NAC is verygood but it causes me stomach pain so that’s why I only take it now & again.Good luck!
