Hello there Samjeff, Sheilding is supposed to cease on paper on the 1st of August. But we may be asked again at any time to sheild by the government. You are right it will still leave us at risk if we choose to go out . And lockdowns in areas with high recorded cases will keep going on. Chances of vaccine are slim and not likely till next spring for public use. Think the motto is to proceed with care, avoid crowds, stay home for now unless absolutley necessary , wear masks or sheilds in public, and expect extra stress when out due to distancing waits & regulations. The choice of going out is upto you but be prepared for it to be vastly different where ever you go even for medical care. Hope this makes it a little clearer and aklways remember things can change overnight these days.

The on-line publication from the government on shielding ending on 31st July, was very informative, thanks Bkin for posting.

SamJeff if you haven’t read the publication I would have a look it may help with deciding what to do. Personally I would only go out if you really need to and wear a mask if you can.

Hello from another shielder. I wouldn't take any guidance literally. It's just guidance. Nothing magical is going to happen on 1 August that makes it safer that the last day in July! In fact you could argue that it could get worse as lockdown eases. So I'm proceeding as usual until/unless infection rates get a whole lot lower. I always did take out the dog as I live in an empty rural area and that will continue. And I will continue to avoid shops. I have masks for essential GP visits etc. The fact that I almost certainly will die if I catch this is a powerful motivator!

Agree totally Periwinkle. The government letter explained it all, ending on August 1st, but it’s all down to common sense aNd doing what you feel comfortable with .

I actually got another letter in update on easing of shielding advice.

The easing of our shielding advice will happen throughout July, as long as infection rates in Scotland continue to fall.

And still should working from home and other advice.

Shielding in Wales is due to be lifted on August 16th, but like many of you I shall continue to be cautious, especially as I have just spent 4 days in hospital with a pulmonary hypertension crisis. Keep well everyone xx

I am not going to be going out more, that is because I have been house bound for some time. The change it will make for me, is having more visitors, only had once a week carer across the shielding, the good thing is I can have total control over how they behave in my home, and can madly sanitise every thing when they have gone. All good luck.

Hi Samjeff, my husband has been shielding due to severe copd and has no plans to go anywhere until there is a vaccine or cure . I started to shop once per week at three local shops about three weeks ago and I have taken our dogs for short walks in a remote area behind our house on a regular basis and this is as far as I'm prepared to go for his sake for the foreseeable future . Personally I think we have to be more careful than ever, as more and more venues open up and people begin to gather together , regardless of any dates given by government. My daughter who has 5 children ( so not easily stressed )has shopped in supermarkets throughout lockdown but has just this week started to shop online as she says it is just too stressful now in shops with so many rules and regulations , staff issuing orders and people having disputes regarding social distancing . My advice, for what it's worth, would be by all means go out if you want to at the end of the month but choose where you go very carefully! Good luck 😬

Hi Samjeff, I have send a couple of private messages to Stone Uk and never had a reply. I think he must be poorly or something has happended to him. I do worry about him but not sure we will find out, unless his family checks his emails x
