This is a very emotionally difficult subject to discuss and the first question I would ask is why are you asking the question. There as been much discussion recently about palliative care because of the virus and I wonder if this is due to that.?

End of life care is a specialist area in its own right and in normal times Macmillan nurses would become involved after discussion with both the patient and family. Normally a range of medications are prescribed to help reduce pain, nausea and anxiety. It very much depends on what the individual wants. Personally I would discuss this with your GP along with your reasons for asking the question. We are living in very emotional and difficult times and obviously you are very worried. Your GP may be able to suggest someone who you can talk this over with.

No easy answer to that question because there are too many variables.

Going by my recent experience of complete respiratory failure, I do not recall any actual pain just a great deal of distress as I fought for breath. Other than that, I'm sorry but I cannot answer your question. x
