School Holidays.

Children are on holiday

Grandparents are called in

To deal with all the hassle

And the unremitting din

Lets all go to Tesco

And run up and down the isles

Even if it's raining

You can run for miles and miles.

We can pick up all the sweets

Scream when granddad tells us off

He very soon will have to stop

Cos he's got a nasty cough

There's lots and lots of thing to do

Till mum and dad return

Grandma always says we're good

So some brownie points we'll earn.

A very good morning to you Mr.D. I'm trying to adopt a more positive outlook on things in general to see if it does indeed,, boost your spirits.

Anyway I digress ..... excellent rhyme as always Mr.D. and the sound of mothers calling for thier little ones to "stop shouting", "stop at the end of the pavement", "stop pulling at your sister's hair" etc etc is upon us once again. I'm lucky to have as they say, been there, done it and lived to tell all parents it will get far worse!!! First chuckle of the day when reading your rhyme so many many thanks😆😁🐿💞

That positive outlook is essential to us SH, if we are to survive. Once we have dealt with our bodily requirements in the way of appointments, medication, and other functions that it insistences upon, we must try and leave it alone to plod on, whilst our spirits rise above the pain to the ridiculas things in life that make us smile, laugh and clown about. So try and do that or I'll come round there with my tickling- stick. 🤣x

"OOOh my Mrs" "tuttie bye" .......you can keep your tickle stick for the moment anyway. Ken Dodd, I'm presumming he's long departed now?

Thank you for your kind words Mr.D 🐿💞.

in reply to SquirrelsHolt

Yes, sadly Sir Ken Dodd is no more. He died 11th March 2018 aged 90. The last of the great entertainers who I always considered too silly to be funny, but came away from his shows weak from laughing.

Hahaha. Very funny Don. That time is upon us. I've a good get out this half term because of plaster of Paris on my gear change arm & hand. Shame

Oh dear 😞Was it a planned thing or did you have an accident? (And apologies if I’ve missed or forgotten something)

Haha, no not planned and I rarely post about my own woes. I was doing a good turn for my elderly neighbour who's prone to falls. Hey presto, my heel flew forward on her slippy floor & my 10 stone landed on my left arm & hand. There's always a silver lining though, I'm right handed! In 7th week now so not long to go then bone scan week after. Mind you 7 weeks not driving is no fun.

in reply to peege

Oh dear, that doesn't sound fair, I hope she did something about that slippy floor and your arm has healed well. Fancy not even mentioining it, brave. 💪

Ah well, only 6 days left now. I'm one of those people who keep quiet until it's all over, not too good at reaching out. 😘

Ouch! How stoic of you to have not spoken of it sooner. To my shame I know if it had been me, you all would have known about it by now! I hope you’re not suffering too much and will be able to drive again soon 💐

So True, I was at Tesco Yesterday where we have our Monday Exercise Class. Being Half Term, The Kids Big & Small were again Running riot & almost Knocking People over, These days of "Not" giving the Kids a Wallop Shows the Evidence of their Bad Behaviour, or Maybe Their Parents need a wallop from The Grandparents ! Next Week the Lifts will be out of Order Again, as happens in School Holidays. xxx

in reply to Hacienda

I like to think the badly behaved children are in the minority who attract all the attention. I don't have any grandchildren myself but I do have friends and relatives who have delightful children. I do sometimes envy them, but a visit to Tesco usually puts that right. 😉x

My Children/Grandchildren have never been badly Behaved, I say this with Hand on Heart, as Their upbringing was monitored Correctly. I am very Proud of this. They are Gentle People. I think it is so sad these days to see Children who are not Corrected , as some Parents cannot be Bothered. More Young Community Centres are well in need Today. Lets Hope. !xx

We take ours to. B n m.theres more stuff they are interested in,so a bit of bribery goes a long way.

Otherwise coats on and out on the rain, trying to tire them out,but it’s me that gets tired first!

Think of all the happy teachers too enjoying half term and a well earned break from their pupils (I was one a long time ago).

My teacher friends tell me that they have loads of work to do during the holidays in preparation for the return into battle. They certainly seem to be a bit more stressed than they used to be in my day.

Loved caring for our grandchildren in the school holidays. Gave me a chance to relive my own childhood playing silly games, setting up treasure hunts and blackberry picking. Even a trip to the super market was made fun. They now have their own lovely families.

I’m sure you represent the majority of grandparents who step in to help out with the children. 🙂
