Kippers.

Kippers for breakfast

Kippers for tea

Kippers are lovely

Whenever it be.

The thing about kippers

Is when they've been ate

You have to remember

You've not finished yet

The smell hangs around

For quite a long time

And they'll always repeat

So remember this rhyme

Those famous smoked and tasty delights we commonly knew as Kippers

Now seem to be a ghastly shade of yellow and resemble dead men's slippers

Once famous and served for breakfast to the culinary high classes

Now if they appeared upon my plate i would need to wear dark glasses. :)

Scruff's the cat and a slave who doesn't eat them x

Reminds me of the Isle of Man

When I was just a lad

I'd send a packet of 'em home

For my mum and dad.

Swordfish, also known as Xiphias gladius. It's a non schooling fish. Just as well. They have long sword like "beaks" . If they swam in schools I think there would be many casualties. 😂😂😂They are found in temperate tropical seas. 😁

in reply to Caspiana

We don’t have uneducated fish here. I think I’ll another little tot then go to bed. Hic! 😊😘

Last time I had kippers was about sixty years ago, I was pregnant with our first baby and I thought I was going to die of indigestion!

in reply to Lyd12

I think dying of indigestion would have been a first, Iris, but I understand your reluctance to risk a repeat (pun intended) of the experience you had.

Used to live on kippers lived by the sea so always fresh, loved the smell and new potatoes. But one day I got some bones stuck couldnt breathe it was so frightening put me off them it scared me not touched since but still love the smell when I visit family and they have just had kippers.

in reply to Spacecat1

I only eat filleted boil in the bag ones now which only have a few soft bones which I don't notice. Like Skis said, they are not a patch on the old style fresh ones.

oooo you've reminded me I used to get the boil in the bag ones, reduces the smell. I wonder if they still come like that, an excellent source of protein & fish oil so I shall try to find some.

Hope the sun is shining where you are as it is here in the west country 😎 - at last!

Tesco have them, two in a bag with a lump of butter, very easy to do. 🙂 Cold in the NW last night but bright and sunny now. Can’t go out unfortunately having new fences put up ready for the winter gales.
