Is anyone of you colonized with staphilococus aureus in your bronchiectasis?

Hi ! Do you have cysticfibrosis? Or any inmune issues? I am colonized with staphilococus aureus but dr says is notcommon in just bronchiectasis patient so he will send me to test for CF. I am scared. Do you have just bronchiectasis?

Hello again. I also have obliterative bronchiolitis, pulmonary hypertension and atrial fibrillation and congenital heart disease. I do not, thank goodness, have CF, and they do not usually test people my age, 75. You are very lucky to have such a conscientious doctor who is being very careful. I know it sounds weird to say this, but if you do have CF then better to know and be cared for than not know until it is too late. However, I sincerely hope that you do not have it and wish you all the best for a negative test result xx

Hi, I frequently get staph aureus pneumonia, just getting over one now in fact. I know it can be a bit daunting to hear that your lungs are colonized (we're not damn continents, after all) but actually it can be quite common in patients with bronchiectasis.

As to the CF test, is your doctor wanting to do genetic testing or are they talking about the sweat test? (painless by the way)

I do have immune system issues and as a result have no resistance to bacterial infections and because my bronchiectasis is so extensive I often get an array of nasty infections. Colonization can be kept at a very low bacillary load with care and attention, and jumping at the first signs of infection helps to shorten the days you are unwell.

Hope this helps a little, take care

Tubelloabril, I'm not sure anyone ever gets used to coughing up green stuff. The trick is to monitor any changes and jump on them as quickly as possible.

Take care, TomTitTot
