Just saw this Guardian article via Twitter..about early deaths because of the disparities in treatment across England.
Shameful.

More postcode lottery performance. Of to do my exercise/stress test this morning to see if I can undergo surgery, hopefully in the next week or two. The disparities do not surprise me, after having to be pro-active myself over appointments being out of synch.
I hope being proactive will work out. Good luck with the test this morning. X
I agree with 2greys Fran, very much a postcode lottery here sadly.
Have a good day. Xxxxxx
Thank you Carole, you too. Off to see about my foot. Need that resolved before my first op next week although as they are keeping me in they will probably give me a thorough checkup xxx
I think its not on
Its horroble
I think AGE and Productive Value play a part IF young am sure the look at curing you BUT if old and is likely to effect quality of life the think WELL I would not like to say.
Awful thought..no I think they are overwhelmed..budget cuts, not enough staff, and equipment, poor communication
My husband is aged 77 years he has copd, heart problems, has had dvt, his ear removed due to skin cancer, has bladder cancer, was diagnosed with lung cancer twelve months ago was fast tracked through and started treatment within a few weeks. He was unable to have surgery due to his other problems so had radio therapy for his lung cancer. We have attended about sixty hospital appointments in the last twelve months. Not at any time has his age or the fact he had smoked for a number of years affected his treatment. He has also had home visits to help him with his walking as the dvt affected his balance. He has been shown the utmost respect from all the doctors who have treatd him in the last twelve months. Thank god for our NHS he wouldn't be here today without them.
Wish said could be said for my dad is quite sad really how negleted by them sure is not easy paitent JUST seems like the take piss in favour of someone mentaly compitabt given he's dementia.
I am pleased for you. You are probably living in well-equipped area with a caring community. Being fast-tracked is definitely an advantage,
Wishing you and your husband well x
Fran
We live in the West Midlands, the district that I live in and have done for fifty years is now what is called a deprived area. I am myself at the moment attending a PR course for the third time and also attending group therapy at my local hospice. All of which have been offered by my respiratory team who I can not praise highly enough. I also have copd emphasemia and bronchiectasis. x
How awful.Sadly not suprised. lost my Mum and Dad and many friends to this. appointments were very slow. not good enough is it?
So sorry for your loss Dubba 💕
Thankyou. 😊
Its so worrying that treatment standards can be so different across different areas! An enlightening post thanks Fran. I hope your appointment went well today xx
Yes, it is. Thanks Anne 💓
Hi, it's interesting that it doesn't mention which areas are better or worse. I'm disappointed but not surprised really. That was very informative, thanks. P.S. The book you mentioned in a previous post should be here next week. Must be writing my copy by hand, lol. 😁
Hi, I am glad..no they won’t say, imagine, people would panic. I finished the book yesterday. I learned about aging but the last part about cancer was too technical but promising at the same time. Xx
Hi again. Thanks for replying. I'm looking forward to the book. As to the technical bits, well, I read quite a lot that is beyond my intellectual capacity, ( mis- spent youth! ) and I find that, persevering, I can glean a fair bit,lol 🤓. Could I recommend two authors; Oliver Sacks and Yuval Noah Harari. Absolutely mind- blowing. ( To me anyway.) Sorry for going off- topic, take care.
Thank you for your recommendations!! I will look them up! 😊
