Hi everyone my name is Katherine I’m 51 and have been diagnosed with Emphysema mild to moderate don’t know anything about this condition wonder if anyone could help me 💖

I don’t know a lot about that aspect but god speed and welcome hope your days get better nothing worse not knowing the extent of the problem I have a 3 month wait to see how far my COPD and asthma have progressed

Emphysema is damage to the Aveoli resulting in poor gas exchange and air trapping. Commonly caused by smoking or inhalation of toxic fumes. The condition is irreversible. But with sensible precautions can be slowed down tremendously.

Stopping smoking is number one priority, and avoiding others who do smoke. Including any toxic fumes.

There are several products that can trigger a worsening of the condition in the short term even leading to being hospitalised.

Common triggers are air fresheners, aerosol sprays, some cleaning products. If it takes you breath away or makes you gasp, it’s likely to be or become a trigger.

Exercise is recommended, ask you GP can you be referred to pulmonary rehabilitation course, one hour exercise one hour education.

Mild to moderate you are probably not experiencing any major set backs, a change in lifestyle can keep it that way for a very long time,

All I will say is if you have any questions, ask on here and not Google. We have many knowledgeable members who can support you when you need it.

Mild to Moderate is good, if you stay off the fags, try to keep fit and avoid other people's bugs. xx

Hi, Katherine, and welcome to the site. I've stayed at the top end of moderate, following the advice on this site, and running weekly singing sessions. Do ask for that Pulmonary Rehab referral. It helped me so much. All the best, M.
