Hi!

My mum has an autoimmune disease called Polymiosistis which I believe has led to her getting Copd, yet another doctor told her it was PF so not sure which.

My mum is not on any medication and doctors have not gave her any information on the disease or offered her any advice. I have learnt everything online and starting ordering her the CBD oil which helped her at the start, but it still helps her sleep which is good

Hi...having not heard of Polymiosistis before..I have just googled it. My sympathies for what your mum is suffering.

From what I have briefly read, it seems that there is little medication found to be effective in treating this, apart from the mention of steroids.

Sorry I cant help or give advice re CBD oil, but as its giving some relief and assists sleep this is a positive.

Hopefully someone will be able to add information or share their own experience of this illness.

good luck

Thank you for your comment. It is a very rare disease she got probably over 15 years ago and I believe the inflammation and steroids from years ago have led to this.

I will continue with the CBD oil for now, I know steroids give her more energy but it's the side effects that worry me.

Hope you are well

Hi Cazzaroo....I have just researched a little further and there doesnt seem to be a specific forum for your mum's illness. However, you may find some comfort and shared advice from the fibromyalgia forum, as although this affects the muscles differently, there may be someone else with Polymiosistis. Good luck.

Perhaps you could help get your mum a proper diagnosis? COPD and PF are very different things and are not treated the same. She needs to be seen by a respiratory specialist and have all relevant tests undertaken.

Thanks for your comment. I live in Australia temporary and mum is based in Ireland so it is hard. My sister knows of the seriousness of the condition as I have had to tell her but I don't want to annoy any of the family with this or scare my mum.

I will however advise her to go back to the doctor and ask more questions. I don't think the doctors ever spent much time explaining to my mum and she is on the waiting list to see another lung specialist. At the moment she suffers from a very bad cough, breathlessness and fatigue.

@mrsmummy can I ask what are the main differences in PF and COPD, are both as bad as each other?

Thank you

Pulmonary fibrosis is a term that covers many different conditions that cause scar tissue to build up in your lungs. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, describes a group of lung conditions that make it difficult to empty air out of the lungs because your airways have been narrowed.
