You can get cheaper ones but this is a reliable make
Thanks Hidden - Can you recommend anything else that may be useful to have on hand?
My Nan was diagnosed with COPD some time ago but continued to smoke and was recently rushed into hospital.
She is now starting to recover and we want to make sure we have everything she will need to start understanding and living with her condition properly. Including a complete ban on smoking!
Thanks
Hi Amylka. If your Nan has a lot of mucus on her chest, it's important to try and cough it up as it's a breeding ground for bacteria, and also the congestion will make her more breathless. Many people find a device like this helpful smiths-medical.com/products... It creates vibrations within the lungs which help detach the mucus from the airways, and make it easier to cough up. It's easy to use and just a few minutes twice a day makes a difference. You can get one on prescription (although some GPs don't seem to know this.)
Ps it must be extremely hard to give up smoking. I've noticed some members say switching to vaping first made it easier. Personally I think there's no substitute for fresh air! but perhaps vaping's another possibility for your Nan.
I've got a Biosync, reads pulse and O2 level, bought via Amazon for £18 a few years ago. I chose it because it can be used for babies and small children too. Don't forget it can't take an efficient reading when nail polish is worn 😃
i would recommend buying a reliable B.P monitor and an ear thermometer, both can be purchased fairly cheaply from various outlets, along with your pulse oximeter you will have all the kit required to recognise the onset of an exacerbation or infection developing............regards skis and scruffy x
