Thanks to everyone for helpful suggestions. Husband finds Bisolvon seems to make getting rid of the phlegm less hurtful - takes about 15 minutes before it becomes effective. Sorry haven't been making reports - had a wee bingle which should be resolved this weekend. Mmaarry

I may have sent u an unfinished post. Pressed the submit, I think. So, a wee bingle is a minor car accident. Mine wasn't exactly minor, but is a good enough description to play it down. Son coming over weekend to help me find another combatant. Nobody injured, other than my pride.
