i have one very similar and find once his fur gets a certain length he turns into a ball of knots so keep brushing him.........they are gorgeous dogs

We are brushing him every day and he is going to the dog groomers tomorrow for a full 'cut and blow dry' , should come back all trim and neat!

when i got my dog i sent him off to the groomer telling them to tidy him up and when i went to get him they had shaved him he was so short you could see his skin...they said they had to do it because he had some knots i was so upset and he was a bag of nerves i had to buy him a coat from them to bring him home because he was freezing .....make sure your very clear to your groomer what you want doing x

You do need to be VERY careful to make sure the groomer is fully qualified. A good one won't mind you waiting. Check and double check, ask questions.

He's just asking to be cuddled. xx

Oh adorable. I would so like a dog. Unfortunately it wouldn't be fair to the dog. Couldn't give him the attention and care he would need. I'm thinking of joining local Animal Rescue to walk one of their dogs. Good for me and good for him.

I love Harry! I am a mad dog lover and Harry looks just beautiful! He can powder my cheeks any day! I desperately want to get a small dog but my daughters keep putting me off saying I wouldn't cope! In spite of my COPD I would manage to take him/her for daily walks as I am still not housebound! Also would be able to love him/her which to me is the main thing! Maybe I should just defy them and go ahead anyhow. Give Harry a hug from me! Juney

Do it juney - it's your life, not your daughters' ...

The incentive of a dog will keep you going - and exercise is so good for us, as well as stroking them.

I wish I'd got one 5 years ago when I wanted to but thought it wouldn't be fair on dog as I probably wouldn't live long! Huh - still here but not enough incentive to exercise :(

Thank you for the comments re getting a wee dog! You have all helped me to make my mind up and I am going to go ahead! The thing, however, which finally made my mind up was a photo of Charley, who is one of my daughter's four dogs in Australia, which my daughter sent me today! In spite of her advice NOT to get she doesn't think I am incapable when I am out in Australia and walking the dogs out there! So, here we go. I have found a site with a special dog, site is called SecondChance - have a look and tell me what you think!!! Look especially at number 9 on page 1, called Chell!!! Only problem would be getting it - the kennels are in Derby and I live on edge of Lake District!!! Long way to drive! This at least gives us something to think about!

Do it Juney and Suzy. some friends have a miniature poodle. They let her hair (fur?) grow so she doesn't look like a pompom. Poodles don't moult - hence all the mixes in recent years - so no hair all over the place to clean up like my dear Freddie, choc Lab. I groom him every day which is in itself an extra bit of exercise.

You could get a miniature poodle mixed with another small dog.

My daughter has a cockerpoo, Lily I shall have one of her puppies next year. Lily is mixed from the medium sized poodle & a cocker spaniel but think that would be a bit energetic for some.

Pets bring so much joy.

Hello peeg, have a look at my entry to qbjb as it really applies to all on this site. Tell me what you think. They have quite a few wee dogs on this site, all rescue dogs, and though I keep looking at different sites, I keep going back to this one! Other problem might be my cat but I have great faith in Sam that he will put up with anything just so long as he is my main man!!! So lovely to hear from you all and thank you so much as all your comments make me feel that I am one of a special group of people!

Cute Juney. I had a look at the site briefly this morning, looks interesting. I looked further than page one and saw a couple of Westies and a Yorkie! They don't moult so much.

I would have a look at the site again, see if there are any reviews to read. Also remember that it's a rescue site. The dogs have been given up for a reason, some because of bad behaviour, some because the owner can't look after them anymore and some due to bereavement of owner.

Personally I wouldn't get another rescue dog. I rescued my Fred. He'd been badly treated & over walked at a little pup so had had problems.

Lots of folks though would only choose a rescue.

Good luck, take your time :)

You are one of a special group of people!! :)

Funny; I would choose a chihuahua (never used to like them!) I noticed a fair number on Preloved, which has a lot of animals needing homes (some free)

Just a thought - it would be good to meet the dog before making a definite decision.....

Can't wait to see your new pet!! :D

Another lovely mix is a 'Cavoodle' (cross Poodle and Cavalier Spaniel)

I imagine it also needs a lot of grooming though. I saw this one on 'Bondi Vet' One day I'll get round to putting in a picture of our Border Collie. (a rescue one from our local SPA in France.)

😃 did you know I've now got Lola Lolly? She's half Cockerpoo & half Tibetan Terrier (which aren't terriers at all apparently).

She's a dear, a bundle of fun. 14 weeks today xx

Photos from my iPad to HU always end up upside down! I did put one up back in June. It might still be on the old post. I'll see if I can find it - although it was an upside down one too!

Yes, still there. If you click on my name, you'll see her if you stand on your head!

He's gorgeous, never heard of this breed . never had a dog, only cats and now feel too old to do the necessary caring, but I believe they are good for your well being.

I do not know how old you are but my mother in law just adopted a rescue dog and she is 84!

Ok I'm a mere child then at 80! Bronchiectasis takes a lot of my energy but you never know I may succumb one day.

Please be aware that stolen dogs get stolen and sold on sites like gum tree. Maybe a safer option would be Dog's Trust or the RSPCA.
