Hi Bill, and welcome to the site. I'm afraid I don't have COPD and am not sure if working with petroleum, as it stands, would necessarily cause COPD. Sometimes with chronic conditions it isn't always possible to know what caused it.

The imortant thing now is for you to ensure you get the correct meds for you and the best advice about how to ensure that your condition doesn't get worse.

There are many people on this site who will be along to support you and offer help and advice on your illness.

Hello Bill, I cant help either. I do know that many years ago I read that unleaded petrol was far more toxic to get on your skin (transdermal contaminatin) as well as the fumes than other fuels.

I'm only guessing but all the lorry parks, travelling on the roads might have added to the pollution in your lungs.

Do you have a diagnosis? Read up all you can here on BLF (click on red balloon for info) and learn about lung health and you can do all you can to have the best future. All the best,P

Hi Bill I have COPD but I'm not sure petrol fumes would cause to have breathing problems but Google this alpha-1- antitrypsin deficiency I'm going to see a specialist to get tested for this and to get my medication sorted out hope this is helpful to you.

Hi Bill!

You are wise to question your working history in regards to your COPD diagnosis as over the past decade or so there has been mounting evidence indicating that exposure to workplace toxins, particularly things like diesel fumes, can lead to the development of COPD. It is well know that of those with a COPD diagnosis, roughly 25% have never smoked so there are obviously other risk factors that are still being identified. I have included some links however if you do some searching with google you can find other studies indicating the contributory factor of workplace toxins to the development of COPD.

Looking at other causes of lung disease seems like an elephant in the room that we can research without saying what is really happening now so frustrating air pollution damages so many without anyone talking seriously.
