Interesting question. I have wondered this. Some things can't be dried in the tumbler. I normally put them on an airer in a room that isn't in daily use.

Hi

I use the bathroom any damp air is removed by the extractor?

launderette? some do a pick up and delivery service.

I just wait for a good washing / drying day* in winter and hang out to dry excess, then finish off indoors, washing dries much quicker that way using a bog standard washing machine with spin speed variations.

*sunny, dry and or breezy

Here is an excellent post on the subject ;)

Good morning Blakey it is sunny bright and breezy here. My back garden is south facing but I find it still doesn't dry. I think I need the old fashioned washing line and prop not the rotary I have got.

I have the old line and prop and it does work well for me, also get some walking exercise in at the same time :)

A chair to bring laundry up to waist height for hanging on the line, cutting out a lot of bending, that would do my back in.

Have to say I have no choice, but dry indoors as my weak shoulders and arthritic hands make hanging on lines difficult. It does cause condensation on the windows on occasions, but like others I dry in a room not in use, as there is only me I can wash less often and the amount drying is less, it is easier to drape on a dryer especially if you can't bend, reach or walk far.

I dry washing indoors and have been for many years during the winter months, big items dry over the rail on the landing and the rest in the spare bedroom can't see an alternative so will just keep doing the same.

If you can afford get a dehumidifier. It will dry even towels overnight and you can then recycle the collected water in your iron or to water plants.

Still trying to figure out my predicament with the laundry room in the sheltered housing scheme here. Struggle so much with breathlessness which seems more to do with the hot dry air than anything else. If it's humidity how come we can tolerate nebulisers?

in reply to

I can't tolerate humidity or damp, too much moisture in the air affects my lungs and breathing. However I can do short period of steam inhalation when I am congested, but I cannot tolerate a sauna, enclosed heated indoor swimming pool etc.

I think possibly you may be having a problem with dust particles from the clothing and possibly, washing powders or fabric conditioners as well as the hot laundry room which has bound to have humidity as well and may not have adequate air ventilation or circulation.

You're not wrong there Blakey as the laundry room is quite small, has no window (though the door is wide open to an airy corridor) and so I'd guess it's a combination of several things.

Ah well, for that reason I'm just relieved summer's over - it was mega-hot in there then.
