Hello, I had to give up an inhaler that caused dreadful insomnia - I suggest you check the side effects of the ones you are using, to see if they may be the cause.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnoea as well as COPD maybe you have a touch of that. I now have a sleep CPAP machine and daily antis to combat recurring infections and (touch wood) they appear to work even though I hate taking meds.my sleep apnoea was associated with my bronchiectasis could yours be too??

I have been through constant infections which are exhausting and depressing but at least I slept at night unless particularly stressed or worried.

I'm sorry I cant help with the sleeplessness. However, the chest infections need the right antibiotic for them. Do your medics take a sputum sample to have tested to ensure they're prescribing the correct one? I recall spending up to 3 months taking one antiB after another (such a waste of time, money, my lungs and energy). The last couple of times I demanded the one that finally worked to begin with, Azithromycin.

Getting rid of the infections gave me a chance to build myself up, do a PR course, more exercise, breathing practice, right additional meds and lo & behold, no infection for 5 - 6 months!

It's so wonderful to get a bit of life back so I sincerely hope you can get the right help too. Good luck

Lots of things may be of help but do check with your doctor about the insomnia and never neglect any lung infection it needs to be treated asap.

You might want to ask your doctor for a referral to a pulmonary rehabilitation course, this will give you all the information and tools to help you manage your symptoms and help avoid chest infections. Also you may want to ask or chat with the doctor about being checked for sleep apnoea.

A few things that are helpful:

Most important is stop smoking if you are still doing that.

Avoid people who may be infected with a cold or flu virus.

Have annual flu shot and get the pneumonia vaccination

Eat a healthy diet

You will learn much much more on a pulmonary rehabilitation course.

Hope you are soon feeling better

Take good care BC
