Hi Bev, what happened at your breatheasy meeting ? Was it just chatting to each other? I have been thinking of joining the one. There is one about a 10 min drive from me in the next town. Good luck with you slimming world.
Anna xx
Thank you Anna. There were about 10 of us though some others were not there apparently. The nurse hosting it was the one from my PR group so I did know her. We just sat and chatted talking about getting guest speakers, I told them I was on this site and was anyone else. The answer was no! We then talked about other things eg gardening and cooking. It was all very informal. No exercise but some do do it. Best of all one of the members lives very close to me so will pick me up in future! Saves an hours bus journey..
Oh we had a raffle - it is voluntarily but you can take some little thing in eg basket of plums, biscuits, home grown fruit etc. and then you buy a raffle ticket or two. I only bought one because I am am poor but I won first prize! I took the plums instead of biscuits because I am going to slimming world tomorrow and thought I should make an effort. In the middle we have a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit which costs 25p each. It's only once a month.

that sounds good, I think I will make the effort and join the one near me. How good is that having someone near you to give you a lift. And well done on the raffle (and the picking healthy) perhaps you should get a lottery ticket cos they say things go in three's and you had two good lucks today. xx
Bev, you are always winning stuff - as Anna says,I do hope you're doing the lottery! x
Hi Bev, Your not going to attempt to lose weight, you ARE going to lose weight. I succeeded in dropping 2 stones and it was done by eating less. I now that sounds very simple but its as simple as that, I blamed the prednisolone and all sorts of things but really I knew it was me eating too much. My transplant consultant told me you won't exercise the weight off, just eat less and that will work. He was right!!
I can't believe how much better I feel, my breathing has improved, hills are not as steep and my clothes fit me again. You can do it and Breathe Easy will help you too. I started with emptying the house of all temptation such as biscuits and chocolate and replacing them with fruit and carrot sticks, It makes for a good start.
Tony. xx Oh' yes and stay away from sugar
Lol Dall. When I gave up smoking about 6 years ago I went to Weightwatchers and lost the stone I had put on and another stone as well. So I know I can lose it. I am getting the exercise doggie walking but am eating lots of biscuits and chocolate (there's that word again). I know it's comfort eating but that's the hardest of all to stop.
Also being out of work and poor I tend to eat foods that fill me up and which are cheaper. Would love to buy salad and more fruit like strawberries but have you seen the price of them! The only other option is to cook more - but I don't cook I microwave

Hi Bev. I have the solution. Just invite Scrobbity to stay for a while. She will eat you out of house and home, especially the choccy and sweeties.

Well done on joining Breathe Easy, let's hope you are starting a trend!

So glad you enjoyed the Breathe Easy meeting Bev as that is a great way to meet people. Pete and I should really make an effort to join a meeting too I think. Well done on the first prize win too and good luck with Slimming World. You and your sister can do it. Take care. xxxxxx
Hi Bev - good luck with the weight loss ! slimming world is really good- like all diet systems though, it only works if you do it - as I know from experience !!I I did really well a couple of years ago, but lately the pounds have piled on. Yesterday I joined slimming World online, just to give myself a kick up the proverbial - my Wii Fit told me I was obese a week or so ago - how rude ! Please let us know how you get on...Gill
Good luck with Slimming World, I lost three stones when I went. One word of advice, read the books you are given again and again until you know them off by heart and always refer to them when not sure. Don't be afraid of piling your plate with 'free' foods. If you go over your 15 syns per day don't panic, just get back on track the next day. Everything you need to know about free food and syns will be in the books and if it is possible, stay for the class afterwards as you pick up some great ideas and information and it is a good couple of hours out, having a cup of tea and a natter.
If ever you are not sure about anything and it is the middle of the week, ring your consultant but if she is unavailable, message me and I will help you. I know the eating plan front, back and sideways.
Best wishes.
My daughter goes to Slimming World, she has lost three and a half stone since Christmas, she still has four stone to go, my daughter-in-law goes to another one and has lost 3 stone and only has one to go. Obviously it works and the meals look good. Best of luck Bev. Keep smiling

Thanks for your replies everyone. Well me and my sister did go. It was at 9.30am and it was a huge group (all women). I expected just a 30 minute talk by the leader but she spoke to everyone individually and chatted a few minutes with them. One of the ladies told me it finished at 11 am! By 10.15 we were both bored out of our skins and my sister who has severe osteoarthritis was squirming in her seat saying she couldn't sit down any longer. So we made our excuses and left. She won't go back but I am still debating whether or not to return. I would much rather have a smaller group and be out quicker. I have a bad back and sitting on hard chairs for too long makes me squirm a bit as well. It's too long. The plan looks good though a lot of hard work. And it costs 4.95 a week which I'm not sure I can afford at the moment.

Hello Bev, bit slow responding, getting used to the new site.
Im not sure if this will be helpful but i see you are wondering whether to return to that group, due to its size, lack of comfort and cost.
Maybe in that case the online Slimming World would be useful - SW seems to work for lots of people.
But if you decide against it - a possible suggestion which please ignore if it doesnt feel useful: I havent seen any mention of the 5:2 diet here - lots of our friends are doing it and finding it helpful, when other regimes e.g. Weightwatchers have not worked for them; this one IS working and they are managing to stick to it.
There's lots on the web about it. Basically you eat normally for 5 days, and "fast" for 2. Fasting involves not eating more than 500 calories during the day, and there's a book which gives tasty recipes. As an e.g. of a day's eating, for breakfast 2 scrambled eggs with one ryevita, then a second meal around 4-5pm of 140 gms stir-fry chicken breast with veg - cabbage carrots sugar snap peas with garlic and ginger, which is quite a plateful (could do in microwave). The weight comes off relatively slowly - healthier than sudden loss - but it does come off. Having a weight loss buddy helps too whichever method you choose.
Anyway good wishes and good luck whichever way you decide to go.
