PS Sputum Colour / Colour Change can, I guess, also serve as an additional signal that an exacerbation may be about to occur, which you can then better prepare for by whatever means you see fit.

Good guide though if I may can I emphasis the MAY in all the blurbs?!
If it’s normal for you and the GPs aware then you don’t need to worry. For example I get thick yellow gunk when my asthma is uncontrolled (no illness), and I rarely get a colour change between bacterial and viral infections (bacterial tastes worse tho 🤢) which is basically the same colour as my ‘asthma’ sputum 🙈 (tho they’re both a lot more difficult to bring up B>V)
I also know someone who goes green on any illness (no bacteria required!) and she has no resp/medical conditions
If it’s abnormal or if you feel rough/symptomatic see your GP! But if you want to try and work out what’s going on the guide will probably apply to most!
I knew white was! It’s funny though because I took a sputum sample to clinic on Tuesday and I thought it was just white until the physio commented that it was kind of greenish lol
I did as I have had the most severe chest infections then in which I also feel very ill.
The last time I had no warning - no change in colour, no cough, cold, or any breathing difficulties one minute and the next felt terrible as though I was dying. x
