Hi! You have ended up on a site specifically for asthma! Healthunlocked May also have somewhere for insomnia. That said, there may be other solutions to his insomnia. I am sure there is plenty of alternatives online.
I've never taken tablets for insomnia... I usually get up and make bread or just lie down and close my eyes (even if I'm not asleep I figure I'm resting)
Hi, Insomnia can be a severe problem. His first step would be to speak to his GP. Many Dr's don't give sleeping tablets any more, as they are only a bandaid solution and don't work long term. Does he have anxiety or anything worrying him?, at his age they can experience stress such as exams etc. or it may be a medical problem or other medications he is taking, his Dr will know the best course to take. Good Luck.
