I've just joined so thought I'd drop a few words in. COPD, smoked for 40+ years, worked in forestry with wood dust, asbestos from winch brake bands and various dangerous chemicals so I was a prime candidate for lung problems. Paying for it all now. It's not the end of the world but I can see it from here.

Hi nice to meet you and welcome to the site. Most of the people on here only have asthma or asthma with something else as well such as copd.
There is another very good site on here for all lung problems The British Lung Foundation and you would benefit from joining that site as well. The majority of folk on it have copd and are a mine of useful information, support and advice. x

I've looked at that one too. A lot of info but I need to sort out my whole lifestyle starting with a house with no stairs, a place to park the car that's not 100 yards away and arranging another keyholder for emergencies. Living alone does not help.
No it doesn't help. Unless your copd is very severe then it's far from the end of the world. Many people live a long time with severe copd anyway.
If you are at the milder stages then you are much more likely to die with copd rather than from it. Leading a healthy lifestyle will certainly help along with taking your meds and seeking immediate medical help for infections and exacerbations as these can further damage your lungs. .
That's why I suggested BLF coz they can reassure you that it is not necessarily a death sentence and usually very far from it. x
