Ok so why can the librarian recognize my cough and say
you sound a bit like you have asthma? but my gp and asthma nurse still change their minds ?
sorry but 2 weeks without sleep has turned my brain to mush perfect at essay time!

The librarian is likely to be a fellow asthmatic or who has someone in the family that probably is...
I had that! Random people would comment on my cough and when they found out how long I'd had it half the time they'd say 'are you asthmatic then?' Meanwhile consultant looks at my list of symptoms and triggers and says 'well this would all point to asthma, except that you don't have it'. ???
I also have brain is mush syndrome so you have my sympathy there; luckily I have no essay right now. Had a nightmare last night about my first appointment with new consultant, dreamt it was 10mins and he just asked me to do PF and I kept saying it was always high but he didn't listen and sent me away. I really hate totally believable realistic nightmares based on previous experience...
when i was in boarding school, and my cough got really bad, my dorm mates said ""thats not just asthma"" and they were right, my first ever chest infection...
Tyber28. Your post really struck a chord with me. When my teenage son was about 2 he showed all the symptoms of asthma but the GP refused to diagnose it (despite me being an asthmatic). We were in the chemist one day and the pharmacist heard him coughing and called me over - 'your little boy has asthma and you must take him straight to the doctor'. I told him I'd been several times and the pharmacist said it definitely sounded like asthma and I must take him back.
Well, I made yet another appointment and guess what? the GP said it wasnt asthma. Another GP finally diagnosed it when she was called out at night.. she herself was an asthmatic so knew the symptoms.
Hmm, sounds familiar too. Had school principal tell me the same about a cough and some years later, realised he was right
