Thought I was having major heart issues with the pain - those little nerve endings were doing their bit the whole way round my chest and back. Didn't spot (no pun intended) the rash until I saw the doc, but was actually relieved that it was ONLY shingles. Still get the odd pain now (in the same place which can be a tad unnerving) and that was 15 years ago.

Hope yours goes quickly.

I had shingles too back in 1994 (remember it well cos I had post grad interview!)

I thought it was a reaction to hospital sheets but after I got home it still hurt - it was horrid because it was so itchy but you couldn't itch it because of the painful nerve endings fireing off! I found aloe vera cream ( gel probably works better) helped a bit. still get some pain even now - it was on my left hip and there is a vague speckled scar there too.

If you are on steroids you need to mention it to your doctor.

Though today if caught early the symptoms can be lestened with antivirals such as zovirax.
