methotrexate

hi is anyone out there taking the above for asthma?ive been on it for last 12 mnths,was on it 4 years ago but had to stop cos of increased infections,would like to hear of others experiance of it thanks mandy

Hi Mandy,

I have been on methotrexate this time round for about 3 months, and so far no major side effects, though it hasn't been wonderful at getting my steroid dose down! I was on it for about 10 months in 1998, but I had to stop it because my liver function tests became abnormal. I sometimes feel a bit nauseous and go off my food for a couple of days after I take my dose, but given my weight and steroid-induced diabetes a day or two per week without eating much is probably no bad thing!

Like Em H i was on it for a year origionally on 7.5mgs then gradually increased to 15mgs but had too stop as my liver decided it didnt like it!! For me too it didnt get my steroids down any but i did feel more stable when on it, im now trying azathioprine but already my liver isnt liking it and im not yet on full whack!!! so not looking good but have also got cyclosporin to try. Like em i felt generally unwell and flu like the day after i took the methotrexte but other than that i felt ok.
