Your asthma action plan tells you everything you need to know about looking after your asthma in one place. Here are the information and tips you need to stay well: asthmaandlung.org.uk/condit...

We also have MART and AIR asthma actions plans specific for your treatment plan - please follow the links for more info

If you’re on an AIR-only treatment plan, you only use your anti-inflammatory reliever inhaler when you get asthma symptoms. asthmaandlung.org.uk/sympto...

Have a plan with my gp. At present at beginning of a flare up. Increased ventolin and oral steroids

I’m unsure if I have one. I mentioned to the asthma nurse about an action plan and she pointed to my blue inhaler and said that’s it 🤷‍♀️

Nurse said I had asthma and gave me fostair. I had no symptoms, never had a flare up. FEV of 74% according to her test. Terrible side effects to Fostair so I stopped taking it. She wasn’t happy so gave me a FENO test to show me that I needed an inhaler: came out at 18. Less than 25 is normal. Subsequent spirometer at the hospital Fev 79%. They say I haven’t got asthma and I agree! Nurse says I’m asymptotic 😂😂

What made the asthma nurse think you had asthma - did you have any symptoms???

No, routine ct thorax showed possible copd, so I had a spirometry test and she said I had mild copd and asthma. I don’t use an inhaler at all but do get short of breath on steep hills.

Have a plan that is supplied by my doctors after each years asthma review with the asthma nurse. Although they only send you a tick sheet now and if they don't like it then they arrange you to come in.

I made up my own plan and the Consultant liked and approved it.

I have severe asthma and when I asked the consultant about having an asthma plan, he said that, as I was on ‘the maximum of everything,’the only plan would be A&E!

Exactly what my respiratory consultant and GP asthma nurse said. Told me that as I’m using Fostair 200/6 as MART, 2 inhalations am and pm and up to four extra inhalations throughout the day. If that doesn’t calm it - get myself to a&e p.d.q…

I’m on exactly the same Mart regime with Fostair 200/6 - also on a biologic, which has helped a lot.

So pleased you that you are receiving biologicals. I am now 78 - so am too old to be considered…🤦‍♀️🤣😂

Really! I’d hope that age isn’t a consideration when it comes to your health and well-being. I’m 66 and the consultant said that me having a biologic would save the NHS money by preventing hospital admissions, despite the high cost of the treatment.

It’s the high cost that’s the issue. Beyond a certain age, it’s a case of ‘are you still worth spending xxxxx’s amount on. I’m fortunate inasmuch I actually challenged my respiratory consultant about. Her response was ‘We’ll get as much diagnostic work as possible before you hit that age !’ And she did - checked out my lungs thoroughly via another CT scan - (the previous one in 2019 had shown small airways disease, mucus plugging🤢, and obvious signs of late onset, adult asthma). The recent one confirmed the small airways disease/ asthma etc., plus, before the CT scan / with dye contrast, the radiologist did a pin prick blood test, then told me that the test indicated an issue with my kidneys - and should speak with my GP. Turned out I’ve stage 3 CKD !! The respiratory consultant thought to also send me for an echocardiogram, as she thought that may possibly show up any other issues regarding being breathless. There were a couple of very minor concerns but nothing that was to really worry about. She also sent me to respiratory physio to help my breathing patterns. All round, I was very, very pleased with her actions.

However my asthma plan is very difficult to follow at the moment as I am now meant to get bloods and FeNo testing done every time I have a flare up!! before I use oral steroids... My consultant (who is brilliant) seems to live in a rarfiyed zone above ordinary gp practices. Ie wait a week before getting results from bloods and die in the meantime (note sarcasm). And my GP does not have FeNo, so would have to make an appointment at my Tertiary hospital to have the test. I have explained this, and we have come to some compromises. I understand the rationale for the consultant wanting me to do this and it makes total sense to me, but the problem is it is not executable by the NHS.
