Got my first chest infection of the season, too antibiotics as soon as symptoms appeared, also prednisolone, and four days later it is as well as can be expected - but hitting the ventolin (unusual for me) to keep the breathing going.

I have been on oral steroids constantly since 1991, am also diabetic (caused by steroids) and have had a wonderful cold the last fortnight so have had to put my maintenance dose up from 20mg to 40mg and am titrating down gradually. Unfortunately this adversely affects my diabetes too

Ohh no boohissboo to the cold!! Steroids are such a double edged sword!! Mine have given me osteoporosis! My bones are so rubbish at 45 years old I actually broke my finger this week putting washing on!! Been on the for approx 15 years 40mg usually for 3 months at a time!

have not been properly controlled for about a year, had changed my inhaler about 4 times as the side effects at that stage were worse than the asthma. i had a slight cough and blocked sinuses a week ago which lead to my chest feeling tight and unable to properly breathe. had 2 days off work and still have problems with my breathing a week later, slight chill min the air my chest closes up.

i want to say well controlled, as over the last few months my asthma has been better than it has for years but actually i'm still needing my reliever more than once most days which my asthma nurse insists is not good enough.

I am looking for some advice. I have had this horrible cough since about October last year. I have been repeatedly been visiting the Doctors, got referred for a chest x-ray (Which was clear) and since Covid-19 I have been shielding.

My propblem is, that my asthma is very poorly controlled. I've had 4 lots of prednisone and antibiotics in the last few months. It's only been so few because I was so scared it would lower my immune system and i'd end up catching covid. I have had repeated telephone consultations with my GP and all he seems to want to do it prescribe yet more prenisone and antibiotics. The prednisone works for the first few days and I am able to get a few things done around the house, however as soon as I stop them I am starting to feel worse than before I started now. My cough has not gone in all this time and I'm quite worried. I've asked the Gp to look at my meds but all he did was double my seretide for 2 weeks and after that prescribed prednisone and antibiotics again!

Should I just demand he looks at my medication instead of keep prescribing the same things which is clearly not helping?

Hi, I'm new to all this so I'm not sure how much help I can be, but I've also had umpteen phone calls, antibiotics for 2 chest infections, a clear chest x-ray and otherwise little relief. I haven't been diagnosed with asthma or anything as mine began as a suspected Covid case in March and has never gone.

I'm currently investigating silent reflux as a potential cause/extra cause of my breathing troubles. The only symptoms I have (now) are itchy/sore chest, laboured breathing and a cough - no heartburn or any gastric symptoms at all. I'm trying Peptac liquid 4 times a day to see if it helps. This is something I can try at home while I'm waiting to be allowed to see anyone. Probably no use to you at all!

One thing though, you've posted in a 5-year-old thread. I only spotted this while I was poking around trying to work out the site. If you post in the main area (for me that is in My Hub and the Asthma community Forum) you're sure to get answers from more experienced people. Everyone is so helpful here. Good luck!

Thank you so much or your reply. I have just noticed reading your reply how old the thread is. I will repost it in a current thread.

I'm not wheezing now as much as I have been lately. New inhaler, steroids and antibiotics (yet again, 3rd time since March). My asthma is a lot worse now in my life, than the last 40 years previous.
