Verapamil experiences

Hi everyone,

I've been experiencing short episodes of SVT where my heart rate rises to 180bpm, triggered by exhursion and heat. During an episode I am forced to sit down, my heart rate plummets by 80bpm in a matter of seconds. My resting heart rate is a healthy 65bpm.

My Cardiologist today has prescribed Verapamil 120mg, once a day to start with. I am so anxious about taking this medication due to its side effects.

I'm concerned that it could lower my resting heart rate and cause Bradycardia. I wish I was more prepared during my appointment today and asked this question. I feel so out of control with all of this. I've suffered these episodes for 4 years now, and was repeatedly told that nothing was wrong. Thankfully I pushed for an Exercise Stress Test, which took 4 years! A SVT was documented during the test and it was terminated at stage 2.. scarily I had no symptoms at the time!!

Has anyone got any experiences with this medication please? 🙂

Hi, my symptoms are exactly the same sudden SVT to about 180 then sudden drop to 35 ish. The heart rate didn't stay low for too long before stabilising to a normal rate. Cardiologist ordered tests but I never actually had an appointment! I was prescribed a beta blocker this does indeed slow the heart rate but also improves the effectiveness of each heart beat. I still have an erratic heartbeat sometimes but highs 140 and lows 50ish. I feel better. I think your medication is more specifically targeted for erratic heart beat so could work even better.
