Did anyone read about the news - critical study behind Alzheimer's cause was fabricated.

Devastating.

Here the article as published in Science:

The (likely) fabrication of brain scan images in the study is a blow to the "amyloid hypothesis" which posits that clumps of amyloid beta in the brain is the cause of Alzheimer's and most of forms of dementia. The failure of clinical trials that target removal of amyloid beta have already indicated that the amyloid hypothesis is either incomplete or deeply flawed.

The Science article (there are many others) opens the door for a necessary reappraisal of what actually causes dementia (likely broad spectrum causes).

Thank you for responding!

What does this mean in patient's life: the sensible and logical next thing to do is to stop taking the Alzheimer's medication? Since it's completely bullocks.

Available meds are for *symptom management - people should always speak with their physician before making a change.

Of course speaking to the doctor first. My intention is to talk about the finding here, and to listen what people think about it. It's a major, discovery and the symptom management idea, with the meds, was based on this falsified theory.

Saw the article and think the people who fabricated the info should rot in prison.

Big believer that diet matters. We have messed up food and who knows how much damage the Standard American Diet (SAD) is doing to people’s bodies. Think everyone should look at his/her daily diet and make changes. Cut down/cut out added sugar and processed foods, and try to get one’s omega 6 to omega 3 ratio back where it should be.

Probably they will.: The U.S. Justice Department has opened a criminal investigation into Cassava Sciences Inc involving whether the biotech company manipulated research results for its experimental Alzheimer's drug.
