Does anybody else experience intense itching b... - Alopecia UK
Does anybody else experience intense itching before their hair falls out? My doc said it doesn't happen with alopecia, it does to me!
Itching and sore bruised feelings as well as crawling kind of feelings are very common. Some people experience them when hair is growing some when it's falling out. As for myself, when alopecia is active I have a combination of itchy and sore areas but not necessarily where the hair is falling out - I haven't had any regrowth for over four years.
Hope this helps. You'll probably get some others telling you the same thing.

BACTINE SPRAY, instant relief & no bad side affects !!
Try this
In 100 mill bottle of olive oil add 5 drops of Lavender essential oil.
10 drops of rose geranium essential oil.
Massage into scalp one hour before you wash your head or hair.
It is important to keep this mix in a dark cool cupboard not the refrigerator.
Also you must put the shampoo or soap onto your scalp before you put water onto your scalp. If you get the scalp wet first your hair if you have any will be dull and greasy. But if you apply the oil mix wait an hour or so then the shampoo, then the water you will be amazed.
Hi Kate, thanks for your answer, the first time it happened I was waking scratching and it was almost painful with all the itching, a big patch just fell out in one go in the shower. After 6 months nothing happened, no growth so I had some injections in the scalp and it has grown back almost all over the patch, it is about a cm long now, but the itching is back higher up on my head, and like you say it almost feels bruised in patches, I hope it doesn't fall out again. So far I can hide it because it is right at the back and I can pull it into a pony tail. I always wonder if I did something wrong, didn't eat the right stuff, dyed my hair, was exposed to chemicals etc.
Use BACTINE SPRAY, PEOPLE!! NOT OILY, & THE RELIEF IS IMEDIATE!!
I had no symptoms of pain or itching hen mine fell out, cant say about hair growing back as mine never did.
Hi, Quite odd that I just saw this message, my head was itching so much this morning and the first thing that popped into my head was "oh NO" please not now. For me it usually signifies hair loss but I'm still hoping it isnt so.
BACTINE SPRAY !!!!!! IT IS IMEDIATE ABSOLUTE RELIEF !!
This is the second time I have had Alopecia. The first time the patches of hair grew back it's normal brown colour, this time it's grown back white! I look a bit like a Friesian cow!
About a year before I noticed any patches I had extreme itching on my head and, having recently been exposed to a four year old, thought I might have caught nits from him. I bought a nit comb which showed I didn't have nits and thought no more about it until about a year later when I noticed a large bald patch which has now grown to cover about a third of my head. I'm lucky that hair has re-grown and I'm having it dyed tomorrow - I hope it takes.
I don't know if it's connected but my whole body itches so much some times so that I can't get to sleep. I find taking an anti-histamine [non drowsy] every day seems to help and an extra one at night helps me sleep when the itching is bad.
It's so good to have somewhere like this where you can ask other sufferers for their experiences. Before I found it there was nobody I could talk to about it.
I used to wear a hat all the time but thanks to the support here I 'came out' and now am not embarrassed about my patches. This being said, I'm still going to get the hair coloured. It must be vanity.
Grocery store, BACTINE SPRAY!! DONT HESITATE!!!!
Your condition is what exactly I've been suffering for the past 2 years, I don't know yet If I have Alopecia. But 2 years, my body, back, thighs, armpits, almost whole body was always itching and had to take anti histamine every other day to ease the itchiness. It has been 2 years now and lately my I am experiencing itchiness in my head almost everyday and noticed that I already have Dandruff which I don't have before.
After 6 months of having itchiness, my girlfriend noticed a coin sized patch in my head, and I'm really bothered, scared and depressed. When I go to shower, and I woke up and check my pillow, there's really not much hair fall at all. Hair that I can see were like 5-6 strands only.
Could these be an early symptoms of Alopecia? Please share your experiences. I'm 22 years old, working in a call center. I'm working at night, sleeping at day. I smoke around 5-6 sticks a day, but I'm stressed so I smoke around 8-12 stick a day now. I drink alcohol occasionally. My diet is not healthy too as I don't eat veggies and fish. Does my lifestyle also could be a cause of Alopecia?
Thanks for your answers, it is so nice to hear from other people who have the same problem as me! I find with the itching my pillow is covered with hair every morning, not good. My hair grew back dark brown, I really thought it would come back white, but so far there are still a few small patches around the big patch that haven't filled in yet. I thought maybe the hair dye irritated my scalp so much the hair fell out the first time but my dermatologist insists it has nothing to do with anything I have done. gadget1943 your answer about the nits was really funny because I have a 3 year old and a soon to be 5 year old in school, they came back with a letter saying some other kids had nits and to watch out for them, so I was convinced the itching was that too, even my husband started scratching at his head in sympathy I think, it is almost a reflex reaction to seeing somebody else scratching!!! (none of us got nits - so far! But I guess we will be able to see mine easily if I do a comb search through my bald patch!!!)
Use BACTINE SPRAY !!!!!!!
I have itching too, I lost all my hair years ago, some of it has grown back but not enough, no idea why my head itches, it doesnt seem to signify anything with my condition, just more annoying....I did think at one point it might be that the hair was trying to grow back but I think that is just wishful thinking..
Hi, sorry your hair didn't grow back. The itching has been bad the last week and I have had handfuls of hair coming out when I brush or wash it, I think this is going to become obvious again and there will be patches, oh well, I don't know why it is happening or how to fix it, so I guess I just have to live with it.
Use BACTINE SPRAY ASAP GO BUY IT!!! READ MY POST !!!!!!
Doctors could do with reading forums, and then they would see just how common the skin sensations can be.
Itching gets reported most often, but all of them can be anything from a mild irritation to down right agony.
Some people say it signals more loss, others regrowth and others it does nothing at all for (that's me) And just because it did X last time doesn't mean it will do the same this time, even on the same body at the same time, areas can itch but seemingly have different responses.
Its just another annoying element of alopecia and its "let's not do anything in a straight forward manner we can understand".
Sophbug - you did nothing to cause this, its not a hair condition at all, in the sense of something wrong with the hair you see. Its an auto immune condition, the internal instructions in the body about growing hair have got muddled up.
Get BACTINE SPRAY ASAP !!!!!!
Yes, it does or at least mine does, i'm feeling it now with more hair loss today, i am thinking of getting a wig as my hair is short and more patches are appearing every week. It started a year ago and i feel very down beat i've tried lotions and potions to no avail, and getting the right sort of help is frustrating although my hairdresser is very sympathetic.
You just don't know where or who to turn to for help.
Always have BACTINE SPRAY with you, mist it on whenever burning or itching are happening. Read my post, the relief is absolute.
Help is HERE!!! GET BACTINE SPRAY!!!!
Yes, I had experienced that too. My hair grown back after I used RELOXE. I took their Natural hair regrowth supplements.
Yes. First intense burning in one or two individual hair folicals, feels like a stove burn- under the skin. Next ,intense itching, like poison ivy or poison oak- under the skin. It's absolutely unbearable. you want absolute instant relief?? SPRAY ON BACTINE EVERY TIME IT STARTS HAPPENING. INSTANT RELIEF. No one told me that, I discovered it by going to the store to find a non-greasy, non- oily burn & itch medicine, and there it was- BACTINE SPRAY....It doesn't stop the condition, but it slows it way down for some reason. Doesn't dry my skin out on my head or cause any flaking, dandruff, rash, or ANYTHING. IT JUST GIVES INSTANT- & I DO MEAN INSTANT!!- RELIEF. I take it everywhere with me. If burning & itching start, I grab it & mist it all around that area. Why the hell aren't doctors TELLING people this!?!?? Don't they KNOW??? If you're suffering , use it!! I swear on my own life, you'll wish you'd found out about it sooner....
Add this to my other post- anytime you want to you can use babywipes or babywipes with soothing aloe, I use Huggies wipes- they have skin conditioners & soothing ingredients for irritated skin. They work amazingly, along with the Bactine Spray, every day. Whenever you need them- no oiliness, no dryness, no flaking- the skin looks & feels normal & hair loss slows when using them. I discover these 2 things on my own. Wish I had sooner, but at least I know now. THEY WORK.!!!
dr told me to take fish oil, flaxseed oil and vit e for the itching since it is due to dryness which is bad for the scalp....i had intense itching and sometimes my scalp felt hot hot hot.......but not daily, weird....my hair is still falling but that itchiness is alot less....and no more hot scalp......he also said he thinks it is almost always connected to hormones and or thyroid hormones---- too high or too low.....mine falls out worse when wet when i comb it......DEPRESSING AND SCARY
may sound crazy but i put a cold bag of peas on the head and it helps when you have a flair up like that...also...i notice when i try to deep condition with castor oil etc i get that tingle crawly sensation and wonder why.......feels like something crawling around your scalp......makes you wonder ...why we feel that
i changed to non sulfate shampoos and conditioners ...ones with shea butter and castor oil etc....and i only wash my hair weekly but i was told to look into omega 3, vit e for dryness , and evening primrose oil and flaxseed oil to help with dryness which may be the itching.....
i find when i try to color what hair i have...it have a burning sensation.....so thats new too since i dont leave it on long at all and last time rinsed it out too fast and still have roots with grey showing....
i tested negative for auto immune....but wonder what is really really causing this bec there has to be a reason........i did have low ferritin and was told it needed to be around 80 for hair to stay on the head so taking that now.....
Did you test with a specialist for auto immune and low ferritin?
