Updates and news about Alopecia UK

The orginal Alopecia UK forum has lots of spammers and people promoting commercial products on a daily basis which takes time and valuable resoucers for our volunteer led charity. Due to this increase and with the advancement of technology, quite simply, the forum has outgrown what we are able to provide in modern times.

In 2011 we were approached by a company called HealthUnlocked in relation to our alopecia discussion forum. HealthUnlocked provide discussion forums for communities related to different health conditions and they asked if we would have our forum as one of theirs. After much deliberation over the last eighteen months we have taken the decision to accept their offer of providing this service which will mean that the forum for people with alopecia will be now exist on the HealthUnlocked website rather than the Alopecia UK website. The current forum will still be there for reference purposes however it will be locked down, once the alopecia uk Healthunlocked forum gains momentum and no further content will be able to be added.

The HealthUnlocked forum will be a totally new forum, with new questions, blogs & polls. Links will be provided on the AUK website to direct people to the HealthUnlocked website and AUK will still be a part of setting it all up.

The HealthUnlocked forums may also provide opportunities for Health Organisations (like the NHS or Department of Health) to research patient experience and so this may also provide increased support for people with alopecia and improved patient experience (options to participate are within a users settings). Overall, we feel that HealthUnlocked providing a forum is a positive move forward for people with alopecia. However we understand it may take some time for these changes to ‘settle in’ and we hope when they do that in the long term that these changes will only provide positive outcomes and better support for people with alopecia in the future.
