Apple Watch or Kardia

Hi All

I am considering investing in one of these items. I thought the Apple Watch would be able to catch an episode of A/f when it randomly kicked of ( during the night for example ) but my understanding now is that it won’t. Thought it would be worth asking about other people’s experiences with these and how good they actually are. Thanks

Hi

I had an ablation seven weeks ago. I had an Apple Watch which kept telling me I was in af when I was actually getting ectopics. This was scary so I put it away as I am still in the blanking three month period post ablation. . I invested in a Kardia and it has given me so much more relief as it has shown when my watch says I am In af I am actually in sinus with premature ventricular beats. You can also pay a monthly fee for extras and to get reports checked by a Cardio doctor. I know you have to sit up with both models and test yourself but personally I have found the Kardia far more accurate. I hope this helps. 😀🙂

Hi, I have both. Apple watch only alerts me way after afib has begun and then even never reliably- it's good for : measuring pulse in sinus (in afib it cannot keep up) and to take a quick ecg to confirm your in Afib or Sinus. ( I can also feel it by taking my pulse and other signs)

Kardia is a little less handy(pun intended) but gives great and definitive reports , I use that to confirm things and if I need an actual report-

I agree with others. The Apple Watch is not very accurate. It is ok for a quick pulse check. Sometimes when taking a pulse check I can clearly see it’s not NSR, but it reports NSR. Check with the Kardia and it will differ. Kardia is much more accurate and is the one I trust. Fortunately now I am much more stable and enjoying NSR

Thanks for your comments Glad things have settled down for you long may it continue

Kardia is a great little gadget, but I try only to use it once a week at best. It’s particularly helpful to be able to have remote consultations with the EP

I was advised to get a Kardia by an EP. That way, after I’d acquired a smart phone and the Kardia I could send him a trace of my heart in AF and he sent a prescription for Flecainide to my surgery for me to take as a PiP. It always stopped episodes in a couple of hours and now that I take it regularly, I haven’t had an episode for over a year and a half and have reduced the daily dose without problems but we know that we are all different. A Kardia is fine if you can feel when your heart is misbehaving as I could, but don’t think everyone does.

I've had a Kardia and an Apple Watch, the Kardia you need to be carrying with you and won't automatically alert if you have a longish spell (3 episodes in close succession) when sleeping, which the apple watch will.

I sold the Kardia and kept the AW.

That’s interesting so does the Apple Watch pic up A/F if you have an episode through the night

yes, it can, its not 100% guaranteed and it might not get them all but it worked for me!

if you know you have Afib you can turn on AF burden which doesn't alert you but gives you a weekly summary, it'll never drop below 2% but for me you can see when I think I got Covid/a virus and had a resulting spike. with this on you DON'T get the alerts.
