I think anything that requires effort can bring on AF. Going upstairs could be enough without carrying washing as well. The position of your arms at that time too could also be a trigger. Were you wearing anything tight around your body at the time?

I find I have to take care when pulling brambles up in my garden.

It's all such a pain having to be cautious isn't it, we can't do this, we can't do that.

Oh well at least we're still alive to tell our woes.

Jean 🙄😊

There is no norm when it comes to AF. The best you can do is to react to your individual personal circumstances after learning from this Forum and your trusted medics.

As Jean says it is tedious but could be worse!

I was diagnosed with persistent AF and now am in permanent AF. I had 3 successful cardioversions and each time I went back into AF 2 out of 3 times after the cardioversion by picking up and moving something heavy. the first time We were moving a box in the garage and my wife had only flip flops on so went to get shoes on for better purchase and some protection for toes. It probably took her less than a couple of minutes but of course while she had gone I thought I could do it myself - bang back in AF - I had been in NSR for 13 months. My last cardioversion lasted 15 months and again put myself back into AF by turning a mattress and going at it - as my Nan used to say "like a bull at a gate" and not taking my time - my wife was helping me obviously but I just did too much all at once. It is hard when we are so used to doing things quickly and easily to take it easy and take our time doing these things. We just have to. Take half loads which may help . As my Mum and Dad got older they had a stair lift (my Mum had fallen on the stairs a few times and was very resistant to having a chair lift) My Dad thought it was wonderful because he used to put the basket of washing on the chair and send it up and walk up after it would take the washing off at the top of the stairs to put away and then send the chair back down for Mum to come up. I don't think Dad used the lift much but he never fell on the stairs either.

l used the get it whenever l bent down, but that passed and doesn’t happen now for some reason. Make sure you don’t hold your breath and that you breath properly when exerting yourself. I noticed l did that and it doesn’t help. If we knew the reason why it happens we would all be rid of it. It’s a mongrel condition and has a mind of its own. We are all different and learn to listen to our own bodies. Everything in moderation.

Hi

Exertion.

I was bad on Metoprolol.

Could be that you are not on correct meds.

Tell your Specialist rather than a Dr who will put your meds up.
