stopping apixaban

I’m due to have a procedure (balloon dilation) to help my swallowing next week and the ENT consultant wants me to stop my apixaban for three days prior to this, it’s not a surgical procedure but there is a chance of bleeding.

I have recently had a cardioversion and as far as I’m aware I’m still in NSR but am very unsure about stopping the apixaban!

I’m waiting for a telephone call from the consultant to discuss this I don’t know which is worse living with the difficulties I have or risking a possible stroke!

We are often asked to stop apixaban prior to procedures and operations. I had to come off for 24 hours prior to a colonoscopy and not go back on for another 24 hours. Sometimes it is necessary to do this for some dental treatments too. for my Total Knee Replacement I had to come off for 36 hours and then back on half dosage for a month. Discuss this with your surgeon and if still wary then phone your cariologist or EP's secretary or cardio nurse for guidance.
