Don’t worry about going on your holidays.

hi you lovely people. I sometimes see posts about people worrying or getting anxious about holidaying abroad when they’ve been diagnosed with AFIB. It’s easy for me to say just get your cases packed etc , and I have said this in the past on here, but Iv been in Spain for 10 days now and 4 days left.! and it’s really hot especially for this time of year. Iv been on decent long walks. Rock fishing, chasing grandson around on beach etc etc and guess what.????? Iv had 2 bouts of AFIB short lived 1 hour episodes. Also A few hours of ectopics on and off thrown in for good measure.😡

but it’s still great being away, Iv had a couple of lay downs to recuperate, drank plenty water and always kept hydrated, but haven’t kept out of the sun as much as I could have done maybe???, even with factor 50 plastered on. !!!

I’m still loving every minute of our holiday so try not to worry too much about the AFIB and have a nice time.

Best wishes

Ron.👍

Thank you Jetcat. Learning Greek while I rehab from ablation will not go wasted!

What a great, positive post, Jetcat! Things also improved for me markedly when I started adopting the ( excuse language) “sod it and get on with what you’re doing” approach to my AFib😊Enjoy the rest of your holiday!

Lovely to hear Ron. I'm just back from Morocco and just think live life to the full. It's just good to go away and try to forget things for a while. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Well done Ron that’s a good attitude, we’re off to Bali on the weekend and plan to have a great time. It maybe a silly question but how do the AF episodes only hang around for an hour or so, how do they go away?

I’m sure you’ll be fine and have a great time James.👍 Longest episode Iv had is 18 hours but that was years ago before my ablations. Then they decreased to around 1 to 4 hours but became more frequent, so I had one ablation then a further 2 and stopped at three. Luckily they’ve always self terminated too. Or so far they do. It’s a weird thing is our AFIB James.? I can stil get just a 15 minute to a hour episode now and again usually if I’m tired or been working long shifts, or laying in the sun too long.?😳 then go months and get nothing. I can fill a skip with rubble and not even get a missed beat but then I can be reading a book and start with a episode.😳

It is Ron I’ve just gone nearly 10 months AF free then just before this holiday it came back when I got dehydrated. Funny thing is last year we went to Bali as well and same thing happened a week before the trip! Both times Cardioversion. Might try the Greek Islands next year, I hear they don’t allow AF to happen to tourists 😆

so glad to hear that Ron . You are so right , easy to cancel social activities when you are feeling rubbish with AF , but better to feel rubbish in a lovely relaxed environment than at home !

Would love to go but when my episodes come they are extremely symptomatic and go on for 34 - 36 hours every time!!

That would be a no no for me also I would say at this moment in time.!! What treatment are you receiving Karendeena.?

Karendeena profile image
Karendeena in reply to Jetcat

Sotalol 40mg x 3 daily plus apixaban. Waiting for an ablation.

What treatment have you had? Have you had an ablation?

Yes Iv had 3 PVI ablations a few years ago. My EP did mention a fourth if i wanted because I was still getting a little afib only for short period’s though thankfully.!! But covid arrived and everything was put on the back burner as to speak.!! But it actually gave me time to have a good think about it and i decided to stay at 3. And not spoil anything.? I am alot better than I was physically and mentally, but have come to realise that even after ablations the AFIB is still hanging around spying on me but a lot more in the distance than it used to be.👍
