Yes it happened to me. A couple of weeks after starting beta blockers when I was diagnosed with afib in hospital. I had gone away on holiday in Devon and when I washed my hair over the white bath there was a large amount of what looked like tiny brown specks all over the bath. It turned out to be tiny new hair growth according to my medic. It never grew back and I had much thinner hair thereafter.

My hair broke off like a snowstorm - I blame Apixaban, although I take a beta blocker too. My solution was something another member posted and which I adapted to my own needs:

don't towel dry hair or rub - wrap in towel for 10 minutes

ditch the heated rollers and heated tongs or brushes

use a heat protector spray if using a hair drier (on low setting)

and I returned to the 1960's sponge rollers.

It seems to have improved the breakages but not the look!

hi - I posted a few months ago on this topic as I was losing a lot of hair. If you check my profile, you’ll be able to find the many helpful answers I had under “posts”. It was quite frightening to see so much hair coming loose! I was on a very low dose propranolol and people seem to think it was the anticoagulant Adoxaban, rather than the beta blocker. Fortunately, it does now seem to have stabilised. I treated myself to a natural volumiser shampoo from Holland and Barrett and a light argon oil product.

Aside from the medications, I believe that AF has given me worse circulation, and I have found massaging my scalp has probably helped. But who knows?!!

When I first took propranolol, I had a similar feeling, that it hastened hair loss. Over the years since. I am less sure.

I’ve taken Propranolol and Bisopolol for many years, ( not together) I’ve never noticed my hair thinning I’ve always had really thick hair. I take Apixaban also. Hope your problem resolves soon for you Take care.

Hi there! I’m only on 2.5 mg daily, but I experience daily hair loss, probably twice to 3three times as much as I should be losing. However due to a pituitary tumour, my hair can grow 3-4 inches in a year, so it is not really bothering me.

If you access a site called “Earth Clinic” They have fantastic advice and remedies of which I have successfully used many.
