Hypnogogic hallucinations that occur while falling asleep. Mine are auditory. They frighten me although I read how common they are in the general public, that doesn’t help when it happens. The one last night sounded otherworldly . Lol ugh! I have sensory ones as well but much less frequent.
What the heck???

I had them while taking Metoprolol and just when falling asleep (only visual though). I changed to Bisoprolol about 3 months ago and have not had any since. They scared me so much that I started sleeping with the hall light on, still do. I'm always hesitant talking about it to other people in case they think I'm losing it mentally. It's terrifying isn't it!
The sound has been “ma” or my phone whistle while it’s completely turned off. Last night was really scarey. I am a nurse and mentioned it to co-workers who may think I’m losing it 😳. I will mention it to my doctor next time. I’ll do some research.
My GP had nothing to say, just looked at me concerned. So are you just hearing sounds or seeing people as well? I once read what it's called, has a name and comes alongside something else. Can't remember now what it was, but if the name comes back to me I'll let you know.
you are the only one who replied to me. Thank you…do you think we’re the only ones who have experienced this? Last night I prayed myself to sleep, no sounds. 🤷♀️
I think people are too embarrassed to talk about it. Years ago my older sister started seeing people when she was on a certain tablet for depression. When she told me, I thought my goodness she's psychic, but when she said she saw a pair of trousers go by I guessed it was her tablets causing hallucinations, she changed them and hasn't had any problems since then.
I am so glad to see this. Often mine is music but with words other times it could be speaking. There is no one around that I can be hearing the house is very isolated so unless my cat or dog are doing it?? Wow at least now I know I’m crazy but not that kind of crazy lol
Hi there, I'm a bit late on this one sorry. I saw your message when searching for hypnogogic in the forum. I've had these on and off for 3 years now following a head injury in 2020. I found them extremely frightening at first as they were very dark, figures in room, hissing sounds, spiders on the wall and other really strange things. I was on mirtazapine for around 12 months and these started during that time so I think it was related, however I do still get them now and again but there not as scary now. It's very strange isn't it, I did think I was losing my mind at one time. I now sleep with the bathroom light on as this seems to help reduce them aswell.
Hi, i'm late to this conversation too, but i'm also experiencing this. I get weird images flashing through my head as i'm trying to sleep. Think Gollum from Lord of the rings climbing over a pond... I'm on losartan. I was ticking along ok but got a new brand in the summer and can see they have come on since then. I find them really disturbing
