chest pain when bisoprolol dose increased

have been taking bisoprolol for 10 years with no problems 2.5mg. My dose was increased two weeks ago to 5mg and since then I have been getting intermittent chest and back pain, and find it harder to exercise. Currently on day 2 of afib episode. Have been seen by A&E and they have confirmed not heart attack. Seeing private cardiologist on Saturday as GP not helpful and although A&E have referred me to cardiology it will be a long wait.

Just wondered if anyone else has had this happen?

Yes, for sure. I no longer take bisoprolol regularly. only as needed, but when I did, I always noticed chest discomfort which spread into my back. I also do get this without bisoprolol, it must be said, but I came to recognise that bisoprolol always caused it. I put it down to the beta-blocker inducing a mild kind of heart failure whereby the heart was slowed to the point it couldn't supply the demands the body put on it.

Be interested to know why your bisoprolol was increased . I have in July had a front convergent hybrid ablation which worked for a few days . Saw my consultant end of last month who said he was confident in getting me in rhythm after the follow up ablation in the groin. He suggested upping the bisoprolol to 5 like you ,I've been on the new dose about two weeks now with no noticeable difference so will have to wait and see how it goes ,will let you know if thing's change .

it was to settle blood pressure although the guy who suggested it really upset me. He had tried to take blood pressure before my echo but couldn’t find a gauge. Then did my echo which always stresses me and then got me to jump down from couch and took blood pressure on third piece of equipment he tried. He didn’t do my echo like previous ones I had had. I’m hoping that tomorrow the consultant will suggest either lowering dose back to 2.5 or changing meds. I was originally on it relating to my afib am on other blood pressure meds. Up to the week before using the dose I was walking an hour a day at a good pace no issues, after increase in dose getting chest tightness and back pain felt too I’ll to excercise gif over a week and then on Monday when I did go for a walk it was really tough and pain came back then went into afib in early hours with pain and ended up in A&E 😞
