Maybe some people know this particularly our American members, but on the BBC just now reporting on Joe Biden's COVID situation they said he was taking medicine anyway for atrial fibrillation. I wonder how he gets on with it?.

Lot of people don't know Biden has Afib. Must do pretty well with it. He's also had two surgeries in the past for brain aneurysms. His cognitive abilities these days are a little scary. But he has the best Drs. Great benefit of being a politician. Best Drs for life.

in reply to belindalore

I really don't know where this current belief that his cognitive abilities are poor has come from but I'm not seeing any evidence of that.

Oh, wait.....on second thoughts, I do know where that idea came from - his predecessor!

A man well known for his excellent cognitive abilities!

That's okay. I know you all overseas don't get all our news just like we don't get all yours. There has been more than one Dr here say that Biden is showing signs of cognitive impairment.

in reply to belindalore

I get that, but I'm a dual UK/US citizen, both my daughters are Americans, resident in the US, and I follow US news on a daily basis. I don't mean to get too political, but I would just quote the same gentleman that started the 'Biden has dementia' storyline and say that there's a lot of fake news out there, and doctors aren't immune.

Biden is a absolute train wreck. He is destroying my country.. and no I wasn’t a Trump supporter either.

in reply to Niki_

And you're sharing this opinion with me because...why?

My only point was that there is no firm evidence of something that was a rumour started by the President's rival. Frankly I wish this post or the resultant discussion hadn't happened (though I'm sure Omniscient1 didn't intent for it to go this way!).

I'm on here because I'm dealing with a miserable health condition that's having a profound effect on my life, my health and my mental health. I don't need this little detour into toxic politics.

I will apologise from my part if any offence or irritation has been caused, to anyone. If I can add a coda to this, it seems that Biden has had it since 2003, and also on a different tack, it seems George HW Bush had Afib too (whilst he was in office).

Absolutely nothing wrong with your post, Omniscient - though given your name, perhaps you might have seen problems ahead 😂🤣

Everyone can always choose to pass by a post they wish to not participate in.. The evidence for Biden‘s cognitive impairments is beyond glaring.. when I see a post that I choose to not participate …I don’t participate in it. Take care

Can we stop with the political views. Know WE ALL HAVE THEM! We just don’t share them here. Plenty of other sites for your opinion s.

I haven’t really said much “political” I responded to someone saying he seems cognitively sound..

Biden's congnition looks pretty good to me. Remember that most presidential speeches, news reports (for many years) are heavily edited to take out those embarrassing pauses. But he does look a bit frail IMHO.

Yes I remember him making the same speech as as Gorden Brown and trying to pass it off as his own some time ago . Fancy imitating GB of all people !!

Neil Kinnock I think.

Watch his movements closely. Watch him when he walks. I'm a senior citizen too and my gate is not what it used to be. He gets mad very easily. I worked as a caregiver years ago with people my age and older. Some had early dementia and cognitive impairment. I see the same things in Biden as those people I cared for.

Speeches the presidents make here are live. Most TV channels interrupt the programs to televise the speeches. So kind of hard to edit a live speech. 🤔

Yes here also for the set pieces, but 'town halls' and election meetings and so on are.

I did not know he has afib. I use the same bike path that he and Jill use when they are at their summer house, so the next time he goes zooming past with his entourage, I'll ask him about it. 😄

Tell him about the forum, maybe he's already on it.

I'm from the US and I didn't know he had afib either. As for his cognition, he sometimes has lapses in speech, but he's also a lifelong stutterer who has had to master speech to overcome it. He's a fine man and has returned some normalcy to our lives, although the media generally likes to play up any perceived missteps. I am incredibly thankful he's in charge.

Link here google.com/url?q=https://ww... .he has persistent, controlled AF.

Very interesting, thanks. I never saw that before. I have the same persistent afib and am just a year younger -- 78. I also have a strained gait lately, the result of a broken kneecap and ankle 10 years ago so I can relate!

Count me among those in the US who was unaware of Biden's AF. As for armchair diagnoses of his cognitive health, one of the loudest voices screaming "Dementia!" is Ronny Jackson, who was White House physician in the Obama administration – which has earned him the distain of pretty much all the former WH staffers, including Obama. To put this in some perspective, a few years ago Jackson decided to run for office as a Republican and fully adopted the MAGA playbook, including embracing an assortment of conspiracy theories. My own take, FWIW, is that at 79, Biden may have lost a step and he seems to tire more quickly than he used to. But watching and listening to him in unscripted situations like extended sit down interviews, he seems to more than hold his own and the idea that he has dementia seems far fetched and nearly always, a partisan attack.

Barry Manilow also has AFib. I saw it on the internet, not that long ago, where he was interviewed about it. Many years ago, I had the honour of being chosen by him, out of the audience, at Blenheim Palace,to come on stage and sing a song with him, so to know he also suffers with AFib, like me, has made me feel I have something in common with him, !!
