Contact 111 online or by phone and ask their advice. If you feel poorly at all then dial 999 or get to A&E if you can.

If you hit it hard, then you need to get checked in A&E/ Emergency Dept.

I was told if you are on anti-coagulants and hit your head, you must go to A and E. It happened to me once and I had a ct scan. The lovely doctor told me that it's important for all 'elderly' people to get checked out after hitting their head. Evidently as we get older our brain shrinks, and there is more space for it to rattle around in our skull! Well that's what she said! Just be extra careful in the heat today everyone!

They did a CT scan, check for damage to the spine and blood work. They found low potassium level (which I find odd, because potassium supplements are taken daily). They said they won't discharge until potassium is back to normal level so they administered an IV for a couple of hours.

Now, I'm not yet out of the woods. According to the NHS guidelines for patients with head trauma that are on blood thinners, they must pay attention for a range of symptoms in the upcoming weeks.

Head injury is no joke, especially when on anticoagulant. I advise everyone to seek emergency care.

Thank you everyone for your support.

How are you feeling? I am sorry to hear of your recent experience, so hope you are okay now?

The general advice is, if you are taking anticoagulants such as Apixaban then you should seek medical assistance at your earliest convenience, suffering a blow to the head can cause undue damage, so should always be checked out.

Thank you for your feedback and making us aware of what to do should we find ourselves in a circumstance like yours.

Interesting about your low potassium. Do you eat bananas, they are rich in potassium?
