What exactly is persistent afib? Note definition is that it lasts longer than seven days but does that include short every other day episodes that still end by themselves? Can anxiety actually cause afib? Thanks for any thoughts.
Read about a nasal spray that stops ventricular afib in its tracks but still in the process of approval. You would think someone would finally invent something like this!

Persistent Afib is continuous ie lasting longer than 7 days and only reverting to normal sinus rhythm with the aid of chemical or electrical cardioversion. The short every other day kind you mention would be defined as paroxysmal Afib
. In answer to your other question, if you are so disposed , then anxiety can contribute towards an Afib episode.
And yes, a fast nasal delivery of an afib terminating agent would be great. I've heard of it for vifib like I think the drug you are referring to, but not for afib which is what most of us here have.
I've had Afib since 2013, 3 cardioversions, 3 ablations and continuous bisoprolol, so I'd say that was pretty persistant. Seems incurable and you just have to live with and manage it.
I take 5mg of bisoprolol when in Afib and that usually brings my pulse down to around 60 and BP around 130/85. Its always worked really well for me and is immediate. I suppose docs think if it works keep him on it. Side effects, tiredness, but managable, nap when you need to and I was still able to do a 6mile walk. Also take apixaban for blood thinners, used to be warfarin but changed last year not sure its better. I'd been on warfarin since first Afib 2013 and no probs. Hope that helps.
