Afib is rarely dangerous acutely. Vtach however, especially if sustained or morphed into Ventricular Fibrillation can be fatal. The treatment is placement of an intrac ardiac defibrillator . Drug treatment alone is chancy and might not prevent the worst outcome. Hopefully thr cardiologist will make any necessary arrangements quickly. Wishing you and your husband the best, etheral

Hello Janith, today is my 1 year anniversary of my rapid afib converting into sustained vtach then vfib and cardiac arrest. I was hospitalized for rapid afib then, following a first syncope and luckily I was on a heart monitor. 2 days later I was fitted a defibrilator and pacemaker. I have not got into vtach since but I converted to afib a couple of times with HR 180 which kicked the defibrilator. First time, this summer, as I was gaining weight and haden't made any lifestyle changes yet. Second time in November as I cut the only medication I was on,(sotalol 80 mg twice a day) for about 10 days. Now I take sotalol only once a day and I have been fine. staying sinus rhythm. I am so grateful for this forum that I discovered last summer. I am now a vegetarian, gluten free, no alcohol. I recommend 2 books, The Afib Cure by John Day and The Oxygen Advantage by Patrick Mc Keown.

Thank you! Sotalol is a fantastic med (l think) … l am reading the Afib Cure. I will look for The Oxygen Cure. The cardiologist prescribed Amiodarone for my husband’s condition … they want to do a stress test of some sort … Amiodarone seems to be a very serious med? I think that you have found the key to preventing afib episodes … we are heading in that direction as well. Especially no alcohol and only fish and chicken. Thank you again. Jan
