Digoxin bisoprolol & channel blockers

Hi, I didn’t get on with Bisoprolol, made me feel faint and breathless, no energy etc, was given a channel blocker, and just couldn’t cope with the swollen ankles and feet, I am now on Digoxin and have a further call in with cardio at Barts in April. I feel so much better on it though. I have permanent AF.

Demonstrates how one man’s med is another’s poison. Sometimes it’s trial and error.

How true, thank you for responding!

That's good news etimadd. It's worth persisting until you find the right medication for you. It seems that you may have done so now.

Thank you so much for your reply, I actually meant to reply to lady who was asking about channel blockers but didn’t reply in the right place!

HiI have never really had any advice regarding Bisoprolol, however I have experienced some of the symptoms you have described. Sometime ago I came across comments someone made, I’m not even sure if it was this site, but it was about taking Bisoprolol at night instead of in the morning, so I tried it. I was pleased to see my heart rate was no longer elevated at night which was my difficulty, the breathless was not as bad maybe because it was longer in my system after taking it, I have no idea I just know now I am quite comfortable on Bisoprolol. I must be honest, when it came to advice around medication I didn’t feel the advice was very forthcoming apart from you need to take it daily and then after the ablation I was just told to wean myself off it, perhaps they thought aI was then fixed. However I found if I stopped taking it my heart rate when up so I stay on the safe side and only take it at night. I hope this helps. My aunt was on Digoxin and swore by it so maybe a better option but having never been offered an option I’m not in a position to say. So good luck and pleased Digoxin is working for you 😊

Thank you for your reply. It's interesting how different people react to the same drugs and how taking Bisoprolol at night made a difference I have a call in with Barts London Hospital in April to see how I'm getting on after the switch to Digoxin so will discuss this with them.

Hi I had my ablation at Bart’s I felt afterwards the discharge process was very swift. Would you be able to ask if they recommend a specific time if the day for taking Bisoprolol as when I was in hospital last year with a hip fracture the nurses insisted I take it in the morning even though I told them my heart rate increased during the night and I prefer to take it at night. It made no difference, thinking back I should have just used my initiative and stuck it under my pillow until the evening 🤔. Just curious that’s all. No worries otherwise. Hope you’re keeping well.
