Change from paroxysmal AF to persistent AF

I started with AF about 2 or 3 years ago. Have been on low dose bisoprolol which meant I might have had a mini attack every 6 weeks or so. Since November however when as a result of stress issues in my life I was getting mini attacks almost everyday that lasted a minute or so or much longer. I have had my medication doze doubled which has helped to a limited extent. Where do I go from here?

Has anyone had a similar experience and how did you deal with it?

AF is generally a progressive condition so you are in good company.

Beta blockers like bisoprolol merely slow the heart during an event so if your events are more frequent I suggest you go back to your treating doctor and ask to be referred to an expert in arrhythmias for a different treatment plan.

Stress is a well known trigger, so change the situation or if impossible some options are 1) change yourself 2) change all other known bad lifestyle factors & known AF triggers often discussed here 3) take up a new hobby/other relaxation technique. Increasing medication may also be necessary whilst the above take effect as it is important that the episodes are stopped but don't rely on that alone. Good luck.
