MRI advice...

A few people have recently asked about the effects of an MRI scan on AF, and I am happy to say that I had no ill-effects whatsoever following my scan on Friday. The same can't be said for my Apple watch - I was lying in the tube, eyes tight shut, and after about 10 minutes I became aware of a slightly warm wrist. The horrible realisation that I was still wearing my watch hit and I called for help and the radiographer came immediately and removed it. I was given an ice pack to put on my wrist as apparently burns can take some time to show, but I was fine. I felt really guilty as I was asked several times if I had anything metallic on and said no.

So now I am without my kardia (stolen with my iphone in the summer) and my watch which I had found as useful as the Kardia. The watch battery is completely kaput and doesn't retain any charge. Suffice it to say my Christmas present won't be a surprise!

Minus 1000 house-points Irene! You were lucky it didn't explode*. Not really surprised you have no other problems though as it would be very unusual. Hope the results are good.

* Many years ago I put my arm up inside the side pod of a race car to change the fire extinguisher and managed to short my steel watch strap against the main battery cable. I still have the burn scars on my wrist to this day.

I know, I really heard all about it when I got home! Your burn sounds fierce; a friend of ours had a rechargeable AA battery next to his car keys in his trouser pocket and the battery exploded and his trousers caught fire, his thigh was scorched and blistered. I don't know enough about batteries I'm afraid, just as well I wasn't aware of the danger at the time.

Oh NO……..small mercies though as Bob says. Any chance of claiming on insurance accidental cover?

I took mine off for my recent x-ray only to leave it in the waiting room……ugh….easy done.

I could, but we are already in the throes of claiming for a leak in the concrete floor in our utility room and the insurance company aren't being particularly friendly even though we have gone for donkey's years without making any sort of claim. Our excess is quite high too, so it may be better to just grin and cough up. I hope you got your watch back?

Amazingly yes, thanks to an incredibly dishy young radiologist who remembered me when I went back for it.

Gosh you are lucky it was just the watch that got damaged. Hope the MRI results are all ok.

Thank you. I had a PET scan just after the MRI and hopefully will hear from them this week about the next stage in my treatment. But I am amazed - I have literally just taken a phone call from the radiographer (7.45pm uk time) who called to find out if I was ok. I told her I was fine and was more worried, when I found out the danger, of causing damage to the equipment, but it is fine too!
