I have been taking 25 mg a day of atenolol for the past 20 years for HBP and now with AF for rate control. I understand it's less heart specific than some other beta blockers, but it seems to work for me. And my cardiologist is comfortable keeping me on it. I'm in permanent AF, QOL is great and I use Eliquis. I don't see many fellow AFers on Atenolol these days. Are there any out there?
Atenolol . . . Are there any AFers st... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Atenolol . . . Are there any AFers still on it?

It was the drug I was first put on when I was diagnosed in 2004 but I stopped using beta blockers about six months later.
Yes me. I’ve been on it for years for hbp. 25mg to begin with, and 50mg for the last 20 years. Have never had a problem with it.
I was on it for 20 years for high BP and it did the job but was taken off it when I was first diagnosed with AF 4 years ago it was eventually replaced with Bisopralol but that tends to make me feel crap
I've been on Atenolol for 20 years for symptomatic PAC/PVC's. 10 years at 75mg/day, several years at 50mg, several at 25mg, etc. Weaned off it a time or two only to return when things get unbearable. Tried Metoprolol, Diltiazem, Verapamil, etc. It works really good at 50 and 75mg, not so much at less than 25mg though there is definitely an effect all the way to 6.25mg. In the past several years I've started to feel pretty crappy on it though.....As I age, it affects my metabolism and leaves me shivering in the house, feeling woozy, HR too low, and a bit of depression. It didn't change,...I did. Went and got old(er). I'm 53. From what I understand it is more cardio selective than most but not to the same degree as others such as Bisoprolol. I've stayed on it with my AF diagnosis though it didn't stop me from hitting 180bpm last time I went into AF during an uphill bike ride. Perhaps it'd have been higher without it? I'm considering coming off the beta blockers altogether and using it only as PiP. One issue I would have with Atenolol as PiP is that for my AF and palps, I usually only need 6-12 hours of coverage. Be nice to have a shorter acting option.
Yes I take 25mg Atenolol each evening. My heart has been pretty good since my last ablation a bit over two years ago but because I’ve had multiple arrhythmias and 4 ablations, my EP keeps me on a low dose to keep things on an even keel.
100mg/day for paroxysmal afib. Poor results. Added 225mg Propafenone (Rythmol) t.i.d. Still a "work in progress".
