Missed Warfarin.

I'm not sure if I have taken my 5mg of Warfarin tonight. Is it better to take a one just in case , or maybe safer not to ?

Hiya benmaise,

Don't worry about it .... carry on and enjoy your day. Unless you have just started on Warfarin and you need time to get your INR stabilised it ain't gonna be a problem. Slap yourself on your wrist, tell yourself not to be so naughty in future and don't miss it tonight

😀😀Seriously, I've done it shedloads of times over the years and it won't be a problem.

I have also had two procedures - a CT Scan and knee replacement surgery where I have had to stop Warfarin on each occasion. Not an issue - in each case it will take roughly 6 days for your INR to get down to 1 or 0 ( zero). In both of these cases I kept statistics and very shortly ( as soon as I can master the dark arts of screenshots) I'll post them on here for you to have a look at.

If you have a smartphone set your phone alarm (loudly) for the time when you normally take Warfarin.

Screenshots. Hold down the Ctrl key (far bottom left) then press the Prt Scr Sys Rq key (top right, first key after the f key row) That will put whatever is on the screen onto the clipboard.

Then open a photo editing program or app. I use Photoshop simply because I bought a full copy years ago and it still does everything I need. There are plenty of free programs available now. Choose a "new" in the file section. Select your "new" file and go to the edit menu and choose "paste" and then your clipboard save should appear, ready to be saved for whatever purpose you require.

I see I'm too late and you've already sussed it.

All the best.

Roy

I mark up the strip of tablets using a marker pen with the day (M, Tu, etc) I am due to take it so I can easily check whether I have taken the tablet or not. I forget from time to time, usually when I have a change of routine such as going to a gig. Funnily enough it's been much less of a problem over the last 15m, can't think why 🤔! I just take the missed dose when I remember. Warfarin is benign like that, unlike the DOACs where you have to be a lot more rigid as they are less forgiving.

I take warfarin and I have missed doses occasionally. You should not take an extra dose because if you have already unknowingly taken your medication you would be at risk of internal bleeding. Take your normal dose following day as usual. Using a dosette is useful

Try this one ....

firstly get a tablet box and do a weeks supply at a time. Secondly would definitely not take another one but phone your inr nurse and tell her. she might want you to have another reading. This is what we do when this happens although not so much now we have weekly pill box/ Good luck.

I’m probably too late with my reply and you’ve already been well advised, but definitely safer not to risk a second dose. I’ve been in a similar predicament before. Just carry on when your next dose is due. Your INR will take about a week to correct itself.

I was led to believe that if you miss a dose you make a note of it and tell them at your next INR test. If you miss more then contact clinic or GP. I am not medically trained or qualified.

Standard advice on meds. If you miss one wait till your next dose time and take it then. It's ok. Really. .. don't buy into the fear! It stays in your system anyway. breathe and relax..go for a nice walk..pet your cat...put on some nice music! Enjoy yourself! 💟

Thank you for all your advice . I do have a set my pills up for the week. I thought I had taken it, then I noticed one on the floor. Thats when I wasn't sure if I had taken it. When I read all your helpful advice I decided not to.
