Hi , is there any risk of a clot moving when stopping from the big dose to smaller dose of Apixaban after 7 days. So scared, my first DVT.

I see that you only joined our forum today and wonder if you have Atrial Fibrillation which is what we specialise in or from what you say, have developed a DVT and been put on apixaban for that? We are not medics here so can't really comment especially with so little background. There may be a DVT forum on Healthunlocked which may be a better fit for your question but I recommend that you speak to your doctors about your worries.

Further to my first post I think Anticoagulation UK on healthunlocked may be a good start.

agree with BobD about the other sites- I think they would keep you on higher dose for longer if it wouldn't be effective- always a risk of course but they decide dose after large scale trials so try and relax!

Please don't be scared Transt. I can't comment on DVT but can understand your anxiety. Don't worry as I'm sure you'll be just fine. As above try the other sites and rest assured your anxiety will pass in a week or so.

I think I'm right about that. You'll be ok I feel sure. Yep - I know you will be. Relax and take it day by day. You'll get there ;-)

I had a DVT 20 yrs ago in my leg, the GP missed it and my treatment was very late. I'm still here and absolutely fine so don't worry the body is an amazing machine designed to keep us alive and can deal with a lot itself even before great NHS emergency treatment.

Hi I notice from the Apixaban patient leaflet that for DVT for the first 7 days you are on double the standard dose compared to AF patients ie 2 x 5mg twice a day. So your reduced dose is actually what most of us take for AF as a matter of course. Also after 6 months you may be reduced again to 2 x 2.5mg daily (according to the patient leaflet). I assume that your doctor/consultant has also confirmed the dose which you should be taking?? These doses will be based on clinical trials so you should be fairly confident that the reduction in dosage has been scientifically proven and you would be very unlucky to have any problems due to the reduction in dosage. Hello. I had a blood clot on my lung following surgery and was on double strength Apixaban for the first few days then reduced to 5mg twice a day, which is the normal dose. I’m also being kept on it as I have atrial tachycardia and loads of ventricular and supraventricular ectopics. Try not to worry. You’ll be fine 👍 but do talk to your doctor about any concerns.
