Good Morning, have been on Verapamil 145 mls for nearly two weeks now. On Tuesday my heart started going rather fast took my pill in pocket and it went down. Then yesterday happened again same time. Went upto 100 took pill in pocket again and went back down. Have woken up this morning and straight away it is going crazy again. Any suggestions. I was on 75 grams of bisoprolol but I was really struggling with my breathing. Thanks anyone.

Hi Gillybean you sound worried but I’m don’t understand what you are asking about? I wonder if you could specify?

Are you tracking your HR? What does ‘rather fast’ mean in numbers? If your resting HR is normally very low 50-60 rather fast might mean HR 80-90 whereas for others it may mean 180 so knowing what is normal for you is important. Going up to 100 would not be considered particularly high, anything under 120 in UK would not be remarkable for someone with AF.

I’m also not clear if the Verapamil you take is daily dose + PIP or just a PIP? Does it work and are you happy on it?

Again I’m not clear about what suggestions you are asking for?

I don’t take any medications and occasionally have high HR of up to 130-150 but do some breathing exercises and rest and think beautiful thoughts and it normally comes down. If it doesn’t and I am symptomatic then I ring my doctor.

Hope those thoughts help.

Hi there, I take 200mg of flecanide plus the new 145 verapamil. Then pip when needed. The doctor did say that my Heart Rate would go up a bit on verapamil because my heart is getting used to the new tablet. I was on 75 mg of bisoprolol for many years but I was really struggling with my breathing hence the change. Now my doctor says the dosage of verapamil is quite low. I know that 100 isn’t necessarily high but it does make me feel quite queezy. I have messaged my doctor to see what he thinks. Do I take the pip every day or do I need the verapamil upping. Or will I get used to the higher rate. Before on the bisoprolol my heart rate was 58 to 6O. Thanks

IF the higher heart rate is due to beta blocker rebound it will settle back down in time , but your doctor is the best person to guide you

You don’t say how or when you stopped your bisoprolol. Even though you are taking something else you can still experience rebound from that . The favourite time for fast heartbeat when I stopped beta blockers was on waking

Yes in the past it was always early morning but the last two days it has been at 4.30 in the afternoon. I stopped the bisoprolol 14 days ago,and started taking the verapamil. I’ve had a stupid headache for Five days touch wood it has gone off this morning but my Heart Rate is up and down.

Irene and I were discussing this on another thread yesterday it took three months off beta blocker for her heart rate to come down . Mine was up and down and still getting fluctuations 13 weeks off. It was the Bisoprolol, Solatol or Nevibolol ( spellings not quite right !) by Elli86

I couldn’t quite understand what the specialist said so,etching about not needing bisoprolol anymore and just needing a channel blocker. When you think you are feeling really better and then AF just says only joking. Gotcha. Ha ha.

The two drugs work in different ways so you might get rebound. I got rebound changing from one beta blocker to a less cardiac specific one . But consult your doctor he knows your case and we are not doctors. Agree it’s really not nice having your heart rate shoot up
