First Covid vaccination may only give... - Atrial Fibrillati...
First Covid vaccination may only give 33% protection to over 60's
Why be so negative Even if that is so its better than no protection at all .Just follow the rules and keep safe
It take the rules to be what the manufacturers say as second jab in three weeks. It seems that some places stick to them but most are not. Where we live some friends have had their second one but we have not.
My Aunt in Eastbourne ( who has only just turned 80) has now had both her vaccines within the 3 week period - well done Eastbourne wish everywhere was like you.
We are in Eastbourne but clinics are not all following the same rules.
Yes it is obviously how things go. Everything should be done the same throughout the country but it never works like that does it.
The centre we had ours at is covering patients from three practices that are about to form a massive one when their new building is finished. Two friends who go to one of the other practices had their first ones on December 20th the day after us and have now been given their second appointments for February 13th but we have not heard anything yet.
That is a bit of a shame but maybe Israeli family life is different from ours and we do have a lockdown.
Their family life is very different from ours and their 20% Arab minority populations is different from theirs. Be interesting to know how they are being treated.
Just shut the media down please! Ignorance can be bliss.
What does Dr John have to say. I'd believe him over a news feed.
Don't think this matters here in Wales as I think the Pfizer vaccine where second dose should be given within 21 days seems to be going to the most vulnerable - care homes, carers, then NHS while stocks are available and correct storage can be managed - whether they are managing to give this within the timescale I don't know. The rest of us by the looks of it will be getting the Oxford vaccine which can be given any time up to 12 weeks again whether they will be able to give this in the time frame is another matter it seems quite chaotic here. We are still going to be taking similar precautions to the ones we always have done since last March until next March at least. My wife did say last March that we would be taking these precautions for at least a year.
"The Israeli research hasn't been published or peer reviewed." Also, what is meant by 'effective'? My understanding is that the vaccine can, but doesn't necessarily, stop you contracting the virus, but does sufficiently reduce the symptoms so that you will not need hospitalisation or risk death. That's not the measure used in Israel, where they are measuring test results regardless of the presence of symptoms.
That's interesting but the Israeli study might well be meaningless. The delaying of the second dose has been allowed because the first dose seems to eliminate the chance of Covid causing the "allergic storm" that in the elderly and the younger prone sufferers leads to so much need for specialised intensive care. After just one dose, the chances of becoming ill with Covid seem to be very low if not nil.
I had previously understood that there are no parallels between the efficacy of the coronavirus and influenza vaccines. Influenza fails to protect when a different strain from that in the current vaccine dominates national infections, which happens often owing to the variable nature of the various strains of the various influenza viruses. I gather that the new coronavirus doesn't morph in the same way which means, so far, that all existing vaccines will provide a high level of immunity.
Steve
I will be glad to get the first dose. Think we have just got to carry on with the guidelines, as far as protection is concerned, for the foreseeable future.
Any effectiveness looks good to me - combined with social distancing, mask wearing, hygiene measures and avoiding unnecessary contact, should keep us oldies fairly safe until the second jab. Magnificent progress in a year, I say.
Had the vaccine three weeks ago, went to the dentist's this morning and now have no reason to go out until June. Happy days!
Just as well as Eastbourne has the tenth highest rate of infection in the country.
What do you put it down to ? Christmas get together's and visitors ?The Saturday before Christmas when we went for our vaccinations the Beacon and Terminus Road were very busy and many not wearing masks.
I have two hospital appointments tomorrow and one on Friday and each department phoned to ask if I wanted to come.
Patrick Vallance on Sky News this morning said that their research had been from day nought so it wasn't surprising the figure was low.
I live in Wales and aged 70 I don't expect the to get the first Vaccine until the end of March its very slow here I hope i'm wrong
I also live in Wales, and also feel proud that my partner who is 66 and a health professional has had the Covid Vaccine over 2 weeks ago, however my mother in law who is 94 has still not had her Covid Vaccine. It does appear that unlike England,Wales is behind in the Covid vaccination programme. It does look as if,as with souljacs4 I will have to wait until March.
That's why the vaccines are supposed to be given within 21 to 28 days. That's how they work. The second dose is supposed to give the full protection. They were not tested to be spaced further apart. So it's not known how effective they will end up being. Some Drs here in the USA are not happy spacing the doses out longer. And yet a few areas are trying to space them out longer. A batch of Moderna vaccine was put on hold in an area of California. It caused way too many allergic reactions within the community it was given. This will be investigated to find out what happened. Any other places who received doses from the same lot also told to put those on hold and wait for a new lot. Some areas around the country getting shots out in a fairly organized manner. But the problem is they are running out of doses pretty fast. It will be a long time before enough can get vaccinated. And the variants are spreading fast. And it's not certain the vaccines will work against the new variants. So yes everyone should keep following the covid guidelines. In fact I read this morning that wearing two masks now is better than one. I already started doing that soon as I heard about the new variants spreading. This will not end anytime soon. So everyone do everything to protect yourselves and your loved ones. 😔
Thanks President Xi. 👿You unleashed a monster on the world.😠
I'm surprised that pharmacy staff have not been at the front of the queue for vaccination. Half of the staff at our local one have had it,
At our one they are also dealing with prescriptions for addicts many of pretty rough looking.
