Depends Steve. The worst hangover I ever had was on Kaliber alcohol free beer.

Most non alcoholic drinks are made like normal and then have the alcohol removed with an osmotic process but this does not remove things like suphites and enzymes. Quite often it is these rather than the alcohol which affect us. I found scililian lemonade very acceptable.

I found de-alcoholised wines gave me problems so I have had to avoid those too. The only way you will know for sure is to try a small amount of your favourite.

Hi SteveIt is certain that quite a lot of afib sufferers have alcohol as a trigger, and equally certain that having a “ skin full” is very unwise if you have afib.

Personally I drink 3-4 nights a week ( wine with meal not much more than 5 units) and if anything it reduces my post ablation ectopic beats . It certainly does not induce afib and never has for me

Like the other helpful comments. I feel worse with non alcoholic beer. The wine I find far too sweet and both taste too chemical. I'd say avoid if you can.

Dump it. It is a 'learned habit' that can be done away with and there is a fair amount of research to show that it will help your heart.

We switched our current accounts to virgin money in December and each got a box of 15 bottles of wine as a thank you. I chose to get de-alcoholised wine, having had no alcohol at all since AF diagnosis in 2019. I was looking forward to a nice glass of non alcoholic red with my Christmas dinner. I only had a few sips and started getting ectopics which got worse throughout the day, also started getting very brief runs of AF, only lasting a few seconds but frequent. Felt really rough and went to bed at 8. This lasted for about 5 days, slowly improving during that time. Really wished I'd stuck to orange squash. The wine didn't even taste all that great. So you might want to try it and see what happens, but for me, no more wine ever, with or without alcohol.

I have found some non and low alcoholic beers I like, but they are not really a substitute for a regular drinker. I find that after one, I don't really fancy another. I can recommend Franziskaner Weissbier AlkoholFrei. For a sweeter flavour try Peroni Libera or Free Damm. For a non lager style, Ilkley Virgin Mary is a good pale ale 0.5%.

I will advise though, that you strictly avoid drinking anything too cold. Room temperature seems best, or at most very slightly chilled. A sudden cold drink can set off many heart problems.

I had a hangover with non alcoholic wine before I had AF so I’ve not tried it since. There’s obviously something in there which gives me all the disadvantages of alcohol without the good bits.

Although I didn't drink much anyway, and didn't consider it a trigger to my AF episodes, I gave up drinking alcohol completely a while before my ablation nearly four years ago and apart from a glass of prosecco at Christmas prefer to stick to water or apple juice. Don't care for the taste of non alcohol wines and not keen on fizzy drinks either. Missed drinking wine at first but doesn't bother me now at all.
