Hmm, that's exactly how I felt when taking Digoxin! Are you just on Bisoprolol?

I can quite believe that any drug could make you feel that way. If you suspect Bisoprolol is the cause I'd ask to try something different.

Yes, I posted something along the same lines a couple of weeks ago. For me it’s confusion and anxiety.

Is there a beta blocker that doesn't do this?

The various cardiologists that I've seen through the medical system I subscribe to try to push these on me but they always do the same thing. Most of them push metoprolol. I have to admit I go so far as to take a quarter of one at night which is when most of my afib events happen. Still, they slow me down and crush my mood a bit in the morning.

Please, please; If somebody knows of a beta blocker that does not do this please let us know

Ask for a beta blocker that is not lipophilic that is does not cross the blood brain barrier and you should find the mood problem lessens/disappears . Atenolol is such a one but there are others

Hi I recently came off Bisoporlol and was given Solatol as it controls both rhythm and rate. This was following a consultation with a specialist cardiac nurse. It’s been the best Christmas present I could have had. I am not sure whether the change in symptoms was down to AFib being better controlled or stopping Bisoporlol. I did have mood swings along with other side effects. I was told that some people do react badly to Bisoporlol so it’s worth asking your GP for a referral talking to a specialist if you can. I’ve realised we are all individuals and need to be treated as such - Bisoporlol is probably a good drug but it’s not good for everyone. Best wishes and hope you can get it sorted - it’s worth persevering.

This is interesting! I've been on Bisporolol since late July: 15 mgs until my cardioversion, and then 10 mgs since then. ( mid September). I have remained on them for high bp, which is now controlled very well, but my heart rate is normal, having had cardioversion. I have been pretty good on them but do feel tired and achy a lot, plus have terrible headaches every few weeks, which I've never suffered before. I was going to ask the dr if I could reduce to 7.5 mgs after New Year, but maybe I should switch to Sotolol?

Hi I am no expert so can’t recommend anything only explain my experience and I read that some people react to Solatol too. I just think it’s worth exploring alternatives and try to do it with someone who has expert knowledge and just as important experience and is sympathetic to the idea of setting up a drug regime that is tailored for that individual . Most GPS are excellent but by definition are not specialists. The change to Solatol lowered my HR to 53bpm and my blood pressure to 105/70 so we are now exploring looking at reducing one of my BP meds. I would definitely recommend a chat about the side effects of Bisoporlol with your GP if you’re feeling too well. The fatigue, occasional aches, brain fog, headaches along with mood swings and feeling very low are all familiar.

Thank you so much for your advice! Yes, I was going to chat to my GP after Xmas/New Year about changing my dose, in the 1st instance. I've been pretty good on it, apart from these occasional blips and have heard that a lot of patients don't tolerate it. I'm not on any other bp or heart meds any more, and am thankful for that. Nor on blood thinners, which is great. I shall mention Sotolol to the GP but I think I'd prefer to try lowering my Bisoprolol dose 1st, to see how it goes. I'll let you know what happens!

Taking only 1.25mg daily and like some others suffer from headache almost fortnightly, aches in feet and hands and more tired daily than before starting this drug last June, 2020.

Same effect I had. Then the cardiologist changed me over to calcium channel blockers and hey presto, an overnight change in mood and enjoyment of life. Now I am myself again!

Best wishes to all for a safe and well Christmas and a better 2021- let’s face it, it won’t take much!

Bisoprolol was very depressing on my mood. I presumed it slowed down my heartbeats and as such I became depressed. I was later switched to Sotalol that controls both heartbeats and rhythm and I have been a much cheerful person ever since. Only con was that Sotalol caused the side effect of mild asthmatic in me and I needed to puff Seretide regularly

I don't have any problems with Bisoprolol and works for me although would prefer not to need them. I would suggest caution with many saying try Sotalol as can gave sone very significant side effects so certainly don't make decisions based off a chat site however well intended we all are. Trust the Docs.
